At the very least, Ubisoft Montreal seems to be a team that can make use of constructive criticism to heart. They seem to have done just about everything better the second time around in regards to Assassin's Creed, even the marketing push. Last year, Ubisoft purchased Hybride studios, the effects studio responsible for projects such as Sin City and 300. The studios first project is a collection of short films that are used to set up the story in Assassin's Creed 2 and surprisingly enough, they are quite good. Sure, some of the effects and costumes look sort of cheesy but the story and production values are top notch for this type of film. Check it out:
Thanks: Todd (Listener) for bringing this to my attention

I'm sorry but this was terrible. Cheesy slow mode scenes, so many cuts with objects moving across the frame, the painfully obvious green screen sections. A lot of this seems to be pure marketing to keep the game in peoples minds and maybe an attempt to gradually move the video game franchise into more of a multimedia one.
Also, I'm so tired of nothing being left to the imagination in a lot of stories, especially in games. Is this kind of back story really necessary or at least wanted by most people? I'm genuinely curious, maybe I'm missing something.

This is actually pretty good even if the green screen scenes are pretty obvious, hell if anyone were to criticize this I'd like to see them try better.

I didn't really watch the whole thing. I skiped through it, but if the game turns out to be a total disaster I will point to this and say "you spent your time and money on this shit instead of the game?"
Its not really nessessary to the game and didn't look entertaining at all. It actually made me want to play the game less than I already do.

This pertains to the story only in the fact that you know what happened to Etzio's father. While, yes the special effects were cheesy and the green-screen scenes were obvious, it was still pretty good for a mini-series hosted by Youtube.

I don't see why you guys are so negative. Despite its flaws, Assassin's Creed had a great lore to it, and I wholeheartedly welcome a little mini series on youtube in order to prep me for AC2. I thought the special effects were actually pretty good, and the action was quite intense at times.

Watching this was more entertaining than my entire AC1 playthrough, not to say that it was a bad game.

School, this series is set to tell the story of Ezios father. If AC2 started with you having no idea what happened and why, and the game never told you, people would complain that it didn't explain the back story.
They're taking a risk, and it probably wont pay off. I'd rather have seen a CG mini series, but its semi original and if anything creates more of a lore about the series.
