I know a lot of people are really down on the original Assassin's Creed and are even more skeptical about Ubisoft Montreal's latest attempt to freshen up the IP. I even wrote a "Managing Hype" article earlier this year to help keep my excitement in check. Unfortunately, my excitement can't remain hidden forever. Assassin's Creed 2 is now my most anticipated game of 2009. Since my Managing Hype article was written, new features and mechanics have come to light and certain story elements have been detailed and everything seems to be coming together in a much more appetizing way. Don't get me wrong, the game is sure to have it's share of problems but the series seems to be undergoing a very fluid evolution. At this rate, the series could really become one of this generations most ambitious and intriguing IPs. Gametrailers posted a nice little video preview of the game that sums up nicely the improvements that have been made to the game. Check it out:

How do you feel about the next Assassin's Creed and what would have to be done to the games structure to gain your approval?

Hmm... I'm super on the fence about this game...

I want it to be good. But we shall have to see I guess...

As someone who was let down by the first Assassin's Creed, I'm going to wait and see the reaction towards AC2 before I make any decision on buying it. But I'll admit that I'm very interested in what Ubisoft's been showing and I hope the guys there deliver with this game.

The thing that drove me insane in the last game was the ragdoll effect. They have to make that way more realistic, otherwise it looks cool

I like how AC2 is more story driven than AC1, and I really like how the animations are a lot more smooth and natural looking. Shit, so much stuff I'm excited for about this game that I can't put all of them into this comment.

Nick: Any game COULD be great, all games have that potential, but very few actually are great. The bitter taste of Assassin's Creed after hearing so much about it and seeing the footage and hype, is still in my mouth, 2 years after having beaten it and never playing again. Not only was the game not nearly as interesting as i expected, but it was glitchy as fuck. It is, still to this day, the only game to have crashed my PS3 on 3 seperate occassions. It is also the only game I've ever played that has outright stopped loading during the sequence (and it also did that on multiple occasions.) It was a flop in both story and gameplay.

I forced myself through the game and honestly only found 2 parts interesting throughout the game. The escape after assasinating a boss and the final fight with the old man. That shit was kinda cool.

Now with Assassin's Creed 2, I'm not going to buy the game until I get an honest review from someone else. I'm not listening to and media on this one. If you play it on the feed I will consider it as if a friend told me it was good, since I can tell with my own eyes.

Even if Ubisoft says they've changed a lot of stuff and are putting more effort into making each part of the game unique, they won't get my trust back with pretty cinimatics and promises. They would have to show me the game in action, the battles, the freeclimbing, the missions. All of the areas that were boring about the first game.

You may say "hey! The freeclimbing was pretty damn cool" and I would agree with you. Jokes are funny the first time you hear them too, but you'll hate the joke and the person telling it after hearing the fucking thing 30 times. The person who told the offending joke will come back saying they have a new joke and you immediatly think to yourself "No, I don't want" but you're still kinda interested because the first one was sorta good. So you listen half-heartedly: hoping for the best, but expecting the worst.

Assassin's Creed 2, to me, is that second joke.

I still don't understand why people hated Assassin's Creed so much. I mean, the repetitive missions never really bothered me. I guess I just really enjoyed it.

Also, this is going to be the first and last game I've bought in 2009. So, already being a fan of the first game, I think this one will be great.

But whatever, I apparently have bad taste in games because I don't like RPGs.

Part 1 to me was so fucking boring and I could not bring myself to finish that shit. revealing the plot twist early in the game was fucking terrible. If they waited till the end to reveal the animus or whatever it's called that would've have been a great twist....

I'm keeping my eyes on this one, hoping it can fix the problems the first one had, but for now I'll be waiting for other stuff to come out
