As a "person who plays games" I honestly can't recommend seeing this movie. However, if you are a fan of large, naked breasts, you will definitely get your moneys worth. For those who are unaware, the movie tries to tell a story about what would happen if Gamers were given control over real human beings in combat situations. Unfortunately, it falls victim to the exact problem that I foresaw, stereotyping the hell out of gamers and gamer culture. I really didn't know whether to laugh or be insulted.

The film's main actors (Gerard Butler and Michael C. Hall) give respectable performances but the dialogue they are expected to deliver would be difficult for any actor to nail. There is some interesting camera work and passable action sequences but the gratuitous nudity and sexual content really makes the movie hard to take seriously. There are some surprising cameos by the likes of John Leguizamo, Milo Ventimiglia, Sam Witwer, Kyra Sedgwick, and Ludacris but for what purpose? None of these appearances have any significance to the plot and could have just as easily been played by any number of no name actors. Aside from an interesting dance number and fight scene at the end, the movie is largely forgettable. All I can say is that I really hope that this is not what mainstream society thinks of the gaming community because if they do, we have a LONG way to go.

i liked the concept of the movie but it wasn't fantastic and yes....stereotyping

sadly i think this is somewhat how the overall community sees gamers, although for people in singapore its more about the MMOs and no,most of the people here can't afford games like WOW and play maplestory instead..... -.-"

One of the critics say that "Gamer has little replay value". Thought it was a funny remark to be honest.

Yeah Nick, I didn't hear you say any of this stuff after we watched it, but you did make a big deal about how Sony could learn how to improve Home!

Just finished that paper that I was talking about... with 15 minutes to spare =D. How about the next time Nolan and I stay over until 4 in the morning, we do it when I DON'T have a paper that needs to be written in 7 hours.

BTW, I'm claiming credit for that "fan of breasts" line.

When are we going to watch Boondock Saints? You and Ami should come over to Nolan's place next time. Bring your controllers so we can actually play video games. Text us =P.

Yeah a bunch of people want to see this in my game design class. I've always thought the movie was going to badly stereotype gamers. Now at least I have a second opinion that agrees basically with what I've been saying.

The fact that District 9 is so good makes me so furious at Fox for dropping the Halo project. That could have been the one to break the curse.

The truly woeful aspect of this whole affair is that Nick ended up contributing to the films box-office gross.

I couldnt stand Butler the entire movie tbh, There is just something about him in action flicks that make him seem like an ape with no brain. I went to go see it knowing it was going to be shit but the ONLY reason I went to go see it was to support Michael C Hall.
