The first issue of there popular and "beloved" Japanese video game magazine, Famitsu, was published in 1986. Prior to 2008, only 6 games had ever received a perfect score (two Matsuno games mind you). In the past year and half, there has been 5 more. What the hell?
The most recent game was Monster Hunter 3 for the Wii. I personally think the series is kinda poopy, but Japan seems to love it... well at least it sells really well. So the new game must be really be awesome to deserve the "rare" 40 out of 4o score, right?
Well i just read on Siliconera, that there is a fucking Famitsu quest and even a Famitsu branded weapon in the game. There has been controversy in the past about Famitsu and them possibly taking money from publishers for high reviews, but this is fucking ridiculous. Credibility out the fucking window. Way to go Famitsu. Kind of shitty on Capcom's side as well.
Yay for integrity!

Monster Hunter controls are so ridiculously annoying. As for Famitsu, I'm not much of a follower, but way to sell a review. Bullshit.

I find this total bullshit too, because the game is absolutely NOT perfect at all. I really don't like how the battle mechanics work in this game; it's like a sloppy ass version of Phantasy Star Online/Universe. Also, Monster Hunter Tri requires you to pay online, while it's free on the PSP versions. I don't know what the hell's up with Famitsu and it's methods of judging games, but this is absolutely ABSURD.

I played the demo of MNU and I've got to say the game is complete bull. There is no fun whatsoever in the single player and everyone I know who had a PSP has sold it back already. The gameplay mechanics are terrible, and whenever you mention the shitty camera, fans scream "just use your index finger and stop whining". I shouldn't have to use my index finger for the freakin' D-pad. It's rediculous. (sorry about the rant)
I haven't played the Wii version, but I assume it's got controls just as terrible, and this Famitsu sell out is almost as bad. I am curious as to what the other 4 games that got perfect scores this year were.

brad, Famitsu rigging scores controversy has been around a while, this isn't the first time they got called on it.

I am one of the none-Japanese players who loved Monster Hunter for the PSP, and until Brad pointed out the rather odd camera, i didnt notice. But even now i dont see it as that big of a deal, call me a Monster Hunter apologist if you want! I couldnt care
This Famitsu stuff is obscene though! Review a game highly, due to the Famitsu links, to get publicity, and then take money as if they are doing Capcom a favour
Bull!
Ah well, with my lack of a PS3 i wont be getting any new Monster Hunter Games soon

To Tomathy: Monster Hunter 3 is coming out for the Wii early 2010 for North America so no worries about needing a PS3, just gotta hate the monthly fee to play online. If you couldn't tell I'm a huge Monster Hunter fan, I ahd about 800 hours of gameplay on the original. It's kinda sad in a way cause that's over 33 days of play time haha.

Never liked Famitsu anyways. Hell I really don't pay attention to anything of a professional review and trollviews.

Yeah static! I knew about the MH for the Wii as i had seen you could get the Japanese port, didnt know a new release was definite.
I also ploughed a lot of time into MH Freedom, mainly halted by that arena match with the Gold and Silver Rathalos and Rathian, but fortuntely i had a friend who helped me thru that part :p

Damn that is so cheap! Famitsu and Capcom deserve to be ashamed

Only problem i see with the Wii is the controls, yet i guess you could get a classic controller if it really troubled you!

I think as with anything that's been around too long, they become less and less pure/more and more corrupt. Famitsu may have been an authority on reviews back then, but now it seems like they're at a point where they can abuse all the power and respect that they've gained over the years.
A lot of sites are like that, IGN for one. I miss the days when they were just N64.com.

Being a non-japanese Monster Hunter player and having seen a bit of the videos, the game looks and probably feels exactly the same as the other installments in the series. With everything in consideration, it definatly doesn't feel like it would deserve a perfect score.
