Why?
1. The birth of second analogue stick came around with the original Playstation controller. Know why that works? It works because there are four shoulder buttons. This means players have quick access to 4 buttons without ever having to take their thumbs off the sticks. Therefore the player has plenty of control and options while moving both the character and camera. This is especially important for shooters.
The PSP only has two shoulder buttons. This is never good enough. Think about the original XBOX controller. That thing only had two shoulder buttons, and often relied on the frequent use of the clumsily placed white and black buttons. Needless to say, Microsoft recognized the stupidity of the button placement for their FPS heavy console when they decided to go with the 4 shoulder buttons on the XBOX 360 controller.
What does all this mean? Just adding another stick is not going to magically solve their control problems on a PSP. Two more shoulder buttons would need to be added in order to really emulate good console controls. And good luck fitting those in on a PSP. I doubt it would ever happen.
and more importantly....
2. I don't want the kind of games that NEED a second analogue stick on my PSP. Again... people are wanting the PSP to emulate the console control experience with the second nub. This is so shooters and 3d actions games can have quick camera control.
Bah! These are not the types of game I want to play on the go. Consoles are not doing 2d anymore. There are exceptions, but honestly, that ship has sailed. But the PSP is a great place to get away with these games, and look really beautiful in the process. Want that sprite based 2d sequel to Symphony of the Night? That would look GREAT on a PSP. 3d game experiences might look decent on the system, but I can never shake the feeling that I would rather be playing them on a console. Handhelds are better suited to 2d games, puzzle games, strategy games, and RPGs. And guess what? That's what the PSP already has. We just need more of them.
Really... people just need to quit acting like the problem with the PSP is the lack of a second nub. It is not going to solve the sole problem with the handheld. It's a great handheld as is. We just need more software support.
