I've been playing two games recently that heavily involve running. Prince of Persia and Mirror's Edge. Before I jump into the blog post though, I would like to point out that I like the PS3 boxes for both of these games, much more than I do the Xbox 360 versions. That's one of the reasons I went with buying the PS3 version of Mirror's Edge, and if I were to buy Prince of Persia, the box art for the PS3 would sway me in that direction. They're both idential but something about the way the PS3 box is laid out draws me towards it.

Ultimately I went with the PS3 version of Mirror's Edge due to it being lead developed for that platform. I bought the game and then sat on it for a few weeks not feeling a need to play it. I started thinking about why I was having a problem getting motivated to play it. I think achievements were a partial factor. The argument is that trophies and achievements are conceptually the same. But there are major differences, but that's not important in this blog post.

In the end, it all came down to the controller. I've become a fan of the Xbox 360 controller and accept it as the new standard. I feel most comfortable with it, except for it having the crappiest D-pad known to man. Prince of Persia I'm also playing on the Xbox 360, although I would rather own the PS3 version, again I feel most comfortable with the 360 controller. For FPS' I think the Xbox 360 is superior because of it's off-axis analog sticks. I have the same feelings towards the action genre when one stick is used to control the camera. But there are games which I see more suitable to the PS3 controller. Katamari with its tankish controls, I could not play on the Xbox 360.

So I'm not sure why this is. Is it more because of past associations I have? I played Katamari on the PS2 and Prince of Peria on the original Xbox. Maybe these are causing a mental hurdle that I'm not willing to try to overcome. Does anyone else feel these associations or with other games? I know Brad's pretty impartial but generally prefers the PS3 controller.

I'd like to see you guys' opinions,
David

Also, why is it that the song Escape by Enrique Iglesias works so well as soundtrack music for both of these games?
