I've heard people complain so much about the Friend Code System. How much of a hassle it is. How ridiculous it is. How it limits online game playing. I'm not going to argue that it's a good system for promoting online play. But for what they are trying to do, it's the best solution.
The point is it's not meant for us, the game players. The people who are old enough to go out and meet people on their own, we get exposed to worse stuff every day. The internet is impossible to censor. There's just too much information and too much going on. So how do you make an online experience where you're trying to cut out as much offensive conversation as possible. By making it so that you can only play with people you know.
This isn't a problem for me. Honestly I don't like playing online, especially with random strangers. Also I'm not big on versus. I'm a competitive person and their are a lot of cheaters online. This makes the experience rather....not fun.
You have to remember. There are a lot of kids playing Nintendo's systems and games. The situation Nintendo is trying to avoid is having these kids be online and just running into some random, bear rolling, idolm@ster watching, holy balls screaming, nobunaga worshipper. It's not to say these people are bad or malicious, they're just on a different maturity level than the others.
You can't censor and limit what is said and who it is said to, but you can make it incredibly frustrating and as long winded as possible, eliminating a majority of the netscum. This leaves only the most dedicated players. And the most dedicated griefers.
Thanks,
David
