Another Capcom game I’m very excited about is Bionic Commando. It was playable here at TGS and I got to spend a good 20-30 minutes trying to figure out the controls. They are pretty intuitive, but much like the old swinging mechanic, there is a learning curve. I definitely see the swinging mechanic being quite awesome if you take the time and get good at it. It is one of those things that when you get in a groove and everything clicks, you just feel like a total badass.

It easily has loads more complexity than any Spider-man game but my main concerns lie with the combat and mission objectives. It is shaping up to feel and look a lot like Lost Planet. While the two games are very different, my gut tells me they share a common link in confusing and frustrating gameplay. I think you’re going to get lost a lot in this game and not be able to make the jumps that you need to. I’m already tired of seeing the physics based dying animation and I’ve only seen it maybe 10-12 times during the demo. The gunplay seems a little bit dodgy and the weapon management a bit clunky. I can’t stand the emotionless look on the face of the character had when he’s running around which makes me appreciate something like the cell-shaded Windwaker even more.

Although I never played the Bionic Command game growing up, playing BC:Rearmed has made me a fan of the series. It is a different kind of action game and I’ll definitely be purchasing it day one to give Capcom my money for trying something new. Let’s just hope it doesn’t take me another year and a half to finally get determined enough to sit through it, because that was the case with Lost Planet. Also let’s hope the story is a little more tied together and actually existent too. That’s probably another reason why it was so easy to put Lost Planet down each time. Pure crappiness in dialogue, story connectivity, lack of likable characters (Except Luka), and overall nonsensity really hurt the flow of a game.

I’m hoping for big things, but not expecting too much.
