It's taken a little bit of time, but as of the past few years I have fallen in love with The Legend of Zelda as a franchise. Many hours sunk into some of the series' best and studying the Hyrule Historia may not leave me as a bona fide fanatic who has played since the series began, but absolutely someone who can claim to be awfully excited for even a second of the next installment in the series.

As luck would have it, we were able to see a little less than a minute. And all of it was awesome.

The environment was gorgeous, and producer Eiji Aonuma's promises of a vast, open world color this as some kind of Zelda meets The Witcher 3 hybrid - a world as far as the eye can see, populated with lots of interesting things to do. The idea is exciting, though sadly - and expectedly - we didn't see that.

When things became active, however, they rocked. A frantic chase between Link, riding atop Epona, and a huge laser-shooting monster showed great explosions and effects all wrapping up in a single moment of awesome as a very fresh new design for Link was revealed underneath a slick cloak as he readied an arrow.

Though sadly brief, the trailer was so promising and so gorgeous that excitement is quite warranted. Who knows when we'll see more of this Zelda, but man, I hope it's soon.

I like it. It's open and Link looks younger than previous Links, but older than Toon-Link. Gives me confidence they aren't just doing "Pretty much Ocarina of Time again" Looking forward to Nintendo trying new things, or at least doing something closer to LttP than OoT.

That was a really cool reveal. The open world sounds promising and I really want to see some gameplay of it. I'm not the biggest Zelda fan but I will be checking this out when I get a Wii U.

Um. It looks nice, but what's with big pew-pew lazers and such? I don't remember steam punk being a core thematic choice in Zelda... just my opinion.

Zelda games have had some crazy mechanisms in the past. Both Wind Waker and Skyward Sword had "old world" high tech shit that shot lasers.

When he said that you can walk up to the mountains, I creamed myself. Can't wait to see more!

Looks beautiful but I'm a bit worried that it won't have a great sense of progression. That was my main problem with link between worlds.

This looks amazing and I love the new design for link. Unfortunately, we are going to be waiting a long time for this one.

I'm hoping this new Zelda has more things to do in open world, Twilight Princess had some interesting open world combat mechanics with horseback fighting and all, and from the looks of this one I really hope they just take hints from Twilight Princess' swordplay and combat mechanics and use that for this game.

If the WII U drops in price before this comes out I may have to grab one. This game sure looks amazing, we'll have to see if there is enough to do to justify such a big open world.
