Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag may have been impressive on next-gen, but it wasn't truly a next-gen game. With their showing of Assassin's Creed Unity at Microsoft's E3 press conference today, Ubisoft staked the franchise's claim on next-gen consoles and left me impressed.

The biggest highlight here, I would argue, is the seamlessness of the game's multiplayer. That seamless multiplayer is one of my favorite parts about the just-released Watch Dogs, and seeing the lesson learned here is quite exciting. On display is four-player co-op, demonstrating before our very eyes just how easily a team of four Assassins can carve through a foe's defenses like tissue paper.

The French Revolution is an excellent setting for a new Assassin's Creed and one strangely unexplored in video games, and Ubisoft's history with history in their games leads me to believe that we're in for something both impressive and surprisingly accurate.

In general, it is the fluidity of everything here which made me so happy. This is a franchise which thrives on constant movement; in its best moments, its strongest missions, the ebb and flow of a perfectly-executed execution proves what can make this series special. If there is a single concern, it is that the sequence by and large features a lot of action in comparison to straight-up stealth. I'll hope that this is just what works best for a big stage - who wants to see quiet creeping amidst an audience of thousands on a day of hype and excitement - and I'll pray that tailing missions take a backseat to awesome full-blown revolutions.

I actually gasped a few times while watching this trailer. Man.

Please, though. Please back off with the tailing missions.

Assassin's Creed Unity will release this holiday season for the Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

    ... ... ... Meh...

There was some nice moments, but all I heard was "my friend... with friends... my friends... friends, friends, friends...". Because I play the single player story to depend on my friends... and I was hoping this fad of stapling multiplayer on everything would die.

The last Ubisoft games have been for me overhyped smoke and mirrors, repetitive and shallow, and mindless collectathons.

Not optimist or holding my breath. We all agree the AC IP needs something fresh and mp/coop wouldn't do for me.

FINALLY. Four white male protagonists in an Assassin's Creed game.

Considering the gameplay still hasn't changed outside of adding Co-op. My opinion hasn't changed. These games are boring.

The co op did surprise me and the game looked really gorgeous but with that said I don't know if I'm ready to play another Assassin's Creed anytime soon.

Anyone else bothered by the voice acting in the game? The guards sounded like they were voiced by one guy, and everyone else I heard sounded British rather than than French.

Ugh. I keep hating on AC but I keep going back to it. Black Flag brought be back for completely different reasons than why I enjoyed the Ezio games because they got pirates down so well. If Unity and bring back the Brotherhood and actually make me feel like an assassin I'll be happy. There's a lot of potential when it comes to co-op and I don't think it has to be 4 white males. I am sure like the multiplayer you will be able to pick from a wide array of skins but I am more concerned about the missions you will go on. This can make of break the game if there are dumb and limited co-op missions. I want to like this game; time will tell.

this gameplay took me by the balls, loving the idea, the new animations and also the variety on the different styles of assassins!

I think Paris is a smart setting for the parkour aspect of Assassin's Creed and what is shown in the trailer looks visually stunning at points. The multiplayer co-op focus and 'randomised elements' sounds like a recipe for chaos for the storytelling/immersive qualities of the game, but it could be fun all the same. Overall though it does just look like more Assassin's Creed.

The issue here (in terms of story) is WHEN in the French Revolution this was. The entirety of the revolution of France was many failed attempts over an immensely long time period.

But that's just my input. In contrast to America, France's Revolution was much longer and much more often unsuccessful. Hopefully this game isn't just a 'we fight once, we win' kinda deal.

The gameplay from the Ubisoft conference looks really interesting. I will probably be picking it up this fall now.

For some reason this makes me think of the Zelda game Four Swords or whatever it was.
