Leaks prior to a major event like E3 are common these days and can sometimes spoil the overall reveal of a game.  Based on today's leak, however, I'm not worried about this putting a dampener on Respawn Entertainment's reveal come next week.  In an apparent accident on the part of Game Informer, the digital version of this month's issue appears to have been leaked online, revealing Respawn's long-awaited first title.

TitanFall, as the game is called, will be a Xbox One and PC exclusive with a Xbox 360 version being ported by a different developer.  A sci-fi first person shooter, TitanFall will have players taking on the role of Titan pilots, huge mechs that are used to dominate the battlefields of the future.  The game is described to run on Valve's Source engine (possibly the first Source 2 title?) and will have a storytelling style similar to Left 4 Dead.  Campaign multiplayer seems to be the primary focus of the game and is accompanied by more traditional multiplayer modes (ie. deathmatch, etc.) as well as a singleplayer mode that is not being detailed at this time.

In consideration of the game's platform release, Respawn said that their team is too small to allow for true multiplatform development and thus were focused on Xbox One and PC only, though they plan to make future titles come to other systems like the Playstation 4.  Respawn also says that they will be taking advantage of Xbox One's focus on cloud computing to offset the rendering costs of such things as AI and physics calculations.

Personally, the game sounds pretty damn good and it'll be nice to step away from the modern shooter while seeing the guys who made Call of Duty make a game with MECHS.  Come on, seriously, we need more mech games.  Hey, Bioware: you made Shattered Steel.  I want a sequel.  GET ON IT.

The guy on GAF who posted the screenshot and read the article mentioned that they are using modified Source engine. I presume it's the original HL2 source engine or modified cousin of it from from TF2/L4D with some more whistles. Source is fine with me, I think the engine is great and one of my favorite. It was wildly underused, I can hardly name the games outside of Valve that used Source.

I haven't kept up to date with Respawn/Infinity Ward at all. After I got bored with COD4, I completely left the COD scene and went back to Counter Strike: Source. But this has honestly got me super excited!

Nice to finally hear from Respawn after all this time and the idea of a left 4 dead mech game sounds awesome.
