Every April Fool's day there are 'jokes' thrown out there that are actually really, really great ideas but would never survive in this oppressive Publisher dominate market. This idea, however, is one that I want real more than anything in this world. The curing of hunger and poverty can wait. I need Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon in my life.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is a re-imagining of the Far Cry idea but set in an early 1990's sci-fi movie. The tagline reads “It is 2007. It is the future”. That's probably the most brilliant thing I've read all month.

The year is 2007. It is the future. Earth has been ravaged by a nuclear war and new paths for peace must be found. A U.S. cyborg army may have found a solution: a powerful bioweapon on a distant island. A Mark IV Cyber Commando, Sergeant Rex Power Colt has been sent over to gather information and figure out what the hell is going on.

Possible cover art, along with the name, was leaked this past week but it's only today that the entire website has gone live. Yes...you should be going there right this instant. This geocities-esque piece of early 90's marketing is fantastic down to every little detail. Additionally, the music found on the page is great as well. It can be a little hard to find amongst the clutter so I've just gone ahead and pulled them out for you. Try these direct links here and here.

A 'teaser trailer' was also released (shown below) that harbors all of the atmosphere this entire thing has been sopping with since the beginning. I use the quotes because it is April Fools day, after all, and this entire thing might just vanish tomorrow never to be heard from again. Just on the safe side I'm filing this under rumor for now.

However, that might not be the case. Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon -the game- has already received Brazilian classification ratings for Xbox 360, PC, and PS3, along with a list of achievments. This is either the real deal or the most elaborate April Fools prank I've come across.

Late Update: We're hearing from sources that this is not an April Fools joke. This is the real deal.

Damn, that a good soundtrack. On par with some Hotline Miami tracks.

Oh my god... I'm going to be blasting Grum, Tesla Boy, Futurecop!, Anoorak, and Com Truise to pacify and relieve my anticipation. I love the retro-style!

I might actually touch Far Cry 3 again if this were real.

Maybe I'm just not grasping what this could potentially be, I dunno, but somehow I don't care. I left Far Cry 3 feeling that my experience was hollow after that whole debacle with the map editor being really restricted in relation to the MP, and the Lobby/matchmaking being complete shit to the point of ruining the MP completely for me. I never cared about the campaign, not that it wasn't good. It was quite good, but all I wanted was crazy usermade map MP fun, like the first few Far Cry games. /end rant/ Unless they decide to fix that shit, I don't feel like anything could possibly make me go back to that game at this point. Just drawing a big fat 'meh' here.

I went to the shop on the site and tried to buy an anti atomic mexican hat and was greeted with a pop-up that said I would receive it in 2007. I can't wait.
