I couldn't be more of a Star Wars fan if I tried. I watched the original Star Wars on VHS so many times as a kid that when my mom finally taught me how rewind and fast-forward worked, I scrubbed the tape from overuse and my parents had to buy another copy. So when I finally caught a glimpse of this E3 Star Wars 1313 demonstration (seen below), I forgot how to breathe for a bit.

The duck and cover style reminds me largely of the Gears of War systems, but with a bit more of an Uncharted feel. The Nathan Drake feel strikes again as short clips of the main character hanging and jumping to new areas. An unobtrusive HUD, dynamic environments, proper platforming? Sure, I'm biased, but if even half of these gameplay features are implemented correctly, I may pass out from sheer joy.

It feels like a long time since any game has been able to scratch my action-adventure space game itch properly. Dead Space is trying its hardest, but it seems like worlds away from something like this. It is still heading in a good direction though!  Star Wars 1313 is giving me just what I need by throwing in more developed characters and a wilder environment to explore.

So the verdict is still pretty far out. I have to say I've never been this interested in a LucasArts game since Monkey Island. Yes, a few of the Star Wars games released by LucasArts in the past decade have kept outer space adventures alive. It tips the scales when a flood of cookie-cutter Lego-styled games follow them.

Give me some Grim Fandango. Give me some old Monkey Island. If Star Wars 1313 is able to reboot LucasArts, they'll have a loyal customer out of me.

I'm still the resident Star Wars nerd though. No one shall take that title from me! >:D

Also, from what I've heard, this is an early build of the game and the devs are stating that this sequence could be vastly different from the finished product. We do know for certain that we won't see this game until sometime next year after they declined putting it out for 2013. That would seem to mean that the team is working hard on this project and won't be pressured by publishers. I have high hopes for 1313. We need a good Star Wars game.

Star Wars games I'd rather have instead:
    Battlefront 3
Knights of the Old Republic 3
    Republic Commando 2
    Jedi Knight III

Come on people you've been sitting on the Star Wars license for ages, make some games already.

"Star Wars meets God of War" was a much simpler combination than "Star Wars meets Uncharted", but Lucasarts still fucked it up (and a second time to a slightly lesser extent with TFU2) with things like poorly balanced gameplay, annoying enemies that brought the game to a halt, stupid QTE's, and shitty setpieces/characters/story. Even though it looked awesome (fancy physics engines, facial capture, etc.) and sounded good on paper. Furthermore, the Uncharted series has a lot of money and hard work from extremely talented people behind it. Like walking into Mordor, you can't just simply MAKE a good Uncharted game. Look to Cabela's Survival to see what I'm talkin' 'bout. In short, I see no reason to be excited at all by what we've been shown/told so far.

Thoroughly disappoitned. I have far from given up on this game, but after seeing the new Tomb Raider game I'm just getting sick of that overly blatant Uncharted inspired gameplay. You know, the ridiculous setpieces where you're hanging off of things as your character takes a beating, attempting to "platform" (aka spamming up and X) your way to the next checkpoint.

I don't know, maybe I'm being overly harsh, but I liked Uncharted better when it was.. ..Uncharted.

Seems like an uncharted clone but for me that is not necessarily a bad thing. I love the uncharted series and a game like that taking place in a rich universe like star wars is very appealing to me.

If all of this game's gameplay is just uncharted-style combat and sequences, I might just have to skip this game altogether. So disappointing.
