Ken Levine announced on Irrational Games' blog and the game's official site today that Bioshock Infinite has been delayed from October 16, 2012 to February 26, 2013.

As is common with these sorts of delays, the reasoning Levine gives is so that the team can make a better game, "It means a bit more waiting, but more importantly, it means an even better BioShock Infinite." Levine frequently speaks of making the game "more extraordinary," claiming that Irrational are "doing things that no one has ever done in a first-person shooter."

He continues, stating, "The great can be made greater, and we owe it to both ourselves and to you, our fans, to take this opportunity. Irrational Games is one of those rare developers lucky enough to ask the people who sign the checks: 'Hey, can we have a few more of those checks?'”

Irrational are also not planning to display the game at future events this summer like E3 in Los Angeles or Gamescom in Cologne. Levine says, "Preparing for these events takes time away from development," and that the next time they show Bioshock Infinite, it will be "essentially" the final version.

i have a feeling that the announced MOVE support last E3 might have a lil something to do with it....MOVE support for a whole game isnt easy, look at heavy rain devs dropping all of thier planned DLC's for that game in order to make the game with MOVE support

Well, I know this is a bummer, but I'm all in favor for the delay, for like he said, to make the game better. And thus, can't wait to play it!

Well, as long as they make it more awesome. I'm okay with it. I've already waited like 2 years for it.

    Ehh? Four more months?

That's one hell of a delay that I sure am not too fond of.

But why the hell not? Gives me more time to go out and get a job so that I can actually buy the game.

It's upsetting, but they can have whatever time they need to make this game completely badass. It's still a day 1 purchase for me, collector's edition if possible.

AKA "Borderlands 2 and Resident Evil 6 are coming out before us, and lots of shitty franchises that need to die after, so we're getting the fuck out of dodge."

Sad, but it was a smart move. IMO, the game hasn't had much of a "hype train" for something coming out so soon.
