I've already written a review for Metroid: Other M, but in doing so there were a few moments that came up which I felt I couldn't talk about for fear of spoilers or being too specific. I wanted to relay them in some way so I thought it best to include them here in this portion of the blog. Keep in mind these are just some of my personal thoughts and there's a chance these are sequences that maybe be spoiled for you if you haven't played the game yet. But here they are

10 - The Intro Movie
One of the best parts of Other M are the CG cut scenes. Team Ninja has always been at least above average is making things look shiny and polished. Other M continues with that tradition. The video above is a feature connecting the opening cutscene that leads into the game with some back story elements. I think most Metroid fans get pretty hyped when seeing this.

09 - I Love Metroid Fusion
Probably one of my favorite handheld games of all time. The mission structure and pacing was great. It also opened up a door to Samus' past never before explored. Even if not wonderfully imagined, I at least have something I can move forward with instead of always wishing for an explanation. I'm talking about Adam Malkovich.

08 - Fuzzy Wuzzy Creeped Me Out
I dunno why but that little white furball with the teeth gave me the shakes. I dreaded cutscenes where that thing was just sitting on screen normal as day because I knew he'd eventually flip out and attack someone. I was intrigued from the beginning where the developers were going with that storyline, little did we know...

07 - No Mother Brain
Thank goodness. There was a point where the story was headed towards the inevitable Samus/Mother Brain battle. I cringed at the though of having to fight another Metroid Boss Staple. Luckily enough it strayed away from that, I just wish they would have moved even further. I'm talking about the last boss, blah.

06 - It's a Mystery
I actually dug the whole who's the killer storyline. Was it your old pal Anthony Higgs? Or your Commander Adam Malkovich? It made sense of why all the squad members were lame-o dorks. They're gonna get killed off.

05 - TV Boss & Gravity Room
I don't know the actual name of the boss but it's head is shaped like a TV. When you pull of the front cover it reveals a gruesome green TV screen face. Still can't remember? You fight it in the area where the gravity is all messed up and you're being either weighed down or reversed so that you're walking on the ceiling. It's one of the more original areas in this game.

04 - Self-Destruct Sequence
I know Brad didn't play this. If you returned back into the world of Other M after the credits you are presented with another area where Samus returns to the ship to retrieve something very important to her. Well actually it's kind of a lame reason and there's a few frustrating enemies on the way. But on the way out you're given the classic Metroid escape sequence, a nice touch.

03 - Missile Recharge System
Thank goodness for game play mechanics that make no logical sense. In the same vein as the Life recharge system in most popular First Person Shooters, Other M added a way for players to instantly recharge missiles taking away time and effort away from refilling. I felt it streamlined the game and made for a quicker paced experience.

02 - The Dash Run
You remember the dash run? Probably not since it hasn't been around in any of the Prime games. But long before Shadow Complex, Samus Aran was breaking top speed busting through walls and now it's back.

01 - The Alternative Title Music
For those of you who did finish the game, you'll know they replaced the Title Screen with this song. It's basically the same couple measures looped, but who cares, I love it.

I knew he liked this game, but not to such an extent.
I agree Fusion was great, and in all honesty is one of my favorite games of all time.

And the name of that boss you're looking for is the Nightmare. I believe an infected verision of it was in Fusion as a boss too.

Ya know I came into this expecting to not agree with this list at all but I actually do agree with a lot of it. Like the title music and the Nightmare boss.

It's unfortunate people can't agree on everything. I mean, if we could all like the same stuff, things would be so much easier. Here's what I thought when I read this:

10 - Yeah, it looked nice, just wish it didn't have the lame voice acting. And the slow motion falling was kind of lame. I'm one of those people who think Samus was never that attached to the hatchling Metroid.

6 - But they completely dropped that plot line before the end, and in the end, it seemed so unimportant!

3 - Let's just make missiles unlimited now. Heck, might as well remove normal beam weapon shots and have Samus fire missiles instead. This "instant missile" mechanic makes no sense, story or gameplay wise.

1 - I don't mind if you like the music, but why do you like it HERE? It's a Metroid game! This isn't what Metroid music sounds like.

    But alas...opinions.

I fucking love Fusion, but Other M was just too much.
I fucking hate the health recharge in CoD etc. Other M definitely took it into next level. Atm I'm replaying Half Life 2 on Mac and words cannot describe how much I love it. The design is not old - it's timeless.
And a TV boss? Alan Wake, anyone?

Other M is a bad game, no if, ands, or buts about it. The problems are numerous. The way they utterly destroyed the strong and independent character Samus has had and turned her into a meek, submissive "good" little Japanese woman is an atrocity. The story is nonsensical, with her handler refusing to let her use the basic functions of her suit on a pointless whim, often killing or injuring her friends because of his frivolity. The controls were just bad, as the D-pad is a horrible way to control a character in a 3-d space, and the very limited control you have over the character is exemplified by the auto-dodge if you're in even the slightest danger and happen to be moving. The move between first and third person is clunky at best deadly for the player at the worst. The long held mechanic of finding upgrades and power ups in the level (like missile capacity) is eviscerated by the fact that the you have no scarcity of missiles which might give a player to actually collect them. Fighting the monsters in the world is a pointless obstical as they never drop anything of even the slightest value to Samus, unless a door is locked until a room is cleared you're always better off just jumping over every single enemy you find rather than engaging them. And finally the suit upgrades you do get ultimately just get chosen automatically depending on what you're aiming at. The player gets no positive feedback for skillfully taking out an enemy because everything is completely automatic.

All in all Metroid Other M is a very, very bad game.

It's a love/hate game. I personally loved it, and hated it at the same time. Some elements of the game were fantastic, some other elements were horrible. Like Samus' monotone voice and BABY BABY BABY BABY BABY BABY.

I do think, in Other M, they were headed in the right direction, just not with the correct developer (Team Ninja).

Go David! I absolutely loved Other M. It had it's faults, but at it's core was a really great really fun metroid title.
