The PS4 Pro heated discussion is one of the reasons why I never miss an episode of this podcast. :)

As for the topic at hand, I felt like I knew this was going to happen when the PS4 was announced when there were people who were saying this might be the last console generation. This is Sony and Microsoft trying to not to let that happen so they can suck out as much profit of their consoles as they can. Hell, they probably don't like how this trend is happening either because they have to keep upgrading their consoles at a faster rate than before. But that's just my assumption.

I've got my key for Divinity: Original Sin 2 redeemed. I feel like I'm in a similar boat as Brad, I'm excited to play it but not while it's in Early Access. The wait will only feel worse since they said it'll be fully released in 2017 which is why I'm going to try to play a part of what they've got currently.

I understand they want community feedback on the current direction of the game, but that doesn't make the wait any easier..

For me, the only way I'll ever buy a PS4 Pro is if my PS4 dies and I need a new one. I think that's the only logical reason to buy it.

During the PS4 Pro discussion, Brad insisted a few times that developers will develop for the most powerful consoles. I’m going to disagree and say that while they may want build for the most powerful hardware, developers are going to develop for what their publishers tell them to. And since publishers are interested in selling software, they’re going to have devs build for the platforms they feel they can do that on. This is why there was so much shovelware for the Wii and why there continues to be such a deluge of bad games on phones; the potential for sales made it worth the effort to make stuff for both those platforms.

While I think Brad’s fear that the PS4 Pro will become the target console for devs and games not running on Pros will suffer is a valid one, there is no benefit to publishers forcing that change from their end. I think the only thing that would convince them to start developing that way is if the data proves it worthwhile and they see an overwhelming majority of players using the Pro options. That said, I’m doubtful of the PS4’s success at all. Looking at the last 15 years or so of consoles, I would never point to a system’s power as a contributor to their success.

Lastly, one of the reasons that Sony as a whole is suffering was because it made such a big investment into producing TVs with more features on the hope that the novelty of those features would sell them. It turned out people can wait a long time between TVs even if they don’t have the “best” version. And because consoles are not subsidized the way phones are, I think people will end up waiting on the PS4 Pro.

Little off topic but I haven't really heard people talking about "Prey for the Gods" that's in development still or even "Cuphead". Still looking forward to everything that's coming out this year, even the delayed "last guardian" :(
