The Week of September 9, 2013

The weekend is finally here! Time to recap some important news buzzing around the game industry.

  • Episode 331 of our weekly podcast is live and ready to be downloaded! This week the guys talk about two major horror relases, Outlast and Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, with mentions to Killer is Dead and Saints Row IV.

  • Speaking of Outlast, survival horror aficianado Nick Henderson shares his thoughts in this review.

  • After freezing funds earned during crowdfunding projects, PayPal has officially decided to change their policies.

  • With no official reason given, Fable Anniversary has been delayed until February 2014.

  • Grasshopper Manufacture and GungHo Online Entertainment are teaming up to bring another female-lead to the PS4 titled Lily Bergamo in 2014, and it may have some smartphone integration.

  • The real plan for Eiji Aonuma is to create a game, surprisingly, without a story.

  • Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann says that discussions about gender and minority visibility in games will push this industry forward. Usually when I say that, I get people accusing me of having a social agenda!

  • Apparently some game titled GTAV comes out this week. Brad will be doing a 24-hour live marathon when the game is released here! Follow him on Twitter to keep up-to-date.

  • I've been keeping my hands busy with Saints Row IV, while fixing my sights on Puppeteer and Amnesia as next on my list. What have you been playing for the past week? Or are you just saving up for GTAV? Share in the comments below!
That wraps it up for this week. If a game-related event occurs during the week and you think it deserves a mention, then please contact me and let me know.

Neil Druckmann is getting flack for pushing an agenda, it was two comments down. And while I disagree that the discussion in itself is an altogether good thing, its more of a lateral move than anything, I can agree that the success of the games he mentioned is good. The more of these games gain traction, the more likely bigger developers will take notice and relax control on the games they release. This in turn gives more freedom to the developers, writers in particular, and we will see more variety like we did in the PSX days.

What type of game is Lily Bergamo?

Don't really see how Eiji making a game focusing on gameplay and not story is a surprise since most (if not all) his game's don't really have noteworthy stories.

Fable at this point is a dead series for me so I could care less if it's delayed or not.

Lily Bergamo seems interesting I just hope it's not a AAA title since most of those developed by Suda don't do very well.

I highly doubt anyone thinks you have a social agenda it's just that you whine and moan about it so much it gets annoying.

This past week I finished Outlast and have been trying to play Killer is Dead but the game has some technical and control issues which may cause me to skip it and if it comes to that I think I will play some Amnesia.
