I'd like to play a little game with the community called, I Would If....

This week's topic, the PS Vita. I'd like to buy one. But I can't justify spending the 300 Dollars and then 40 dollars on a game. So the point of the game is to bring up reasons that would cause you to change your mind. For example here are mine.

I would buy a Playstation Vita IF...

      • There was a way to play my UMD games and not have to re-buy all of them.
      • There was a way to add the 3G account onto my existing data plan with Verizon.
      • The First Edition Week Early Version didn't fuck me with a pack in game and smaller memory card.
      • I didn't already buy the original PSP with Lumines. Need something different.

Obviously there are easier answers like, I would buy one if it was cheaper or the games weren't so expensive. But the point of this game is to come up with legitimate reasons that would cause you yourself to run out and buy a Vita at it's current price. For those of you who are already locked in, feel free to tell us why you're getting one.

Huh.....thats true, i forgot about the UMD's. Is the system not backwords compatible? Would be sweet if u could just get a digital version cuz u own a copy of the UMD. Wait what about digital games on your psp? Can u redownload them on your vita?

    I would buy one if
*Squeenix released all their previously UMD-only games on the PSV-PSN
*I could get English translations of Tales of Rebirth and Tales of the World to play on it
*in the PSP/PSV Persona 4 remake, they allowed me to Romance Kanji as the male main character

Those are really the only things, besides money, that are factors in my buying a PSV. I already want the device for games. I wont be using any alternate reality/camera bullshit time wasters, I wont be going online with it so the plan doesnt matter to me either. The reason I want one is for all the PSX games on the PSN I could play on the go/at all since I don't have a PS3, plus the few psp only games that I never played since by-and large the PSP was a failure and I've never owned one.

Most of what I play on my PSP are emulators and copies of my PS1 games not on the PSN. Either way, I'm fine carrying around my PSP as an external UMD drive.
The whole 3G thing doesn't bother me. I wouldn't expect 3G to be very good for online gaming. Maybe downloading/updating stuff on the go, but that's a minor convenience. Web browsing? I've got my phone for that.

I'm excited because I've always played more handhelds than consoles, and the Vita looks like it can provide a wide variety of gaming experiences.

ORRRR you can just keep your psp so you can play your psp games and get the psvita that is only 250 dollars. And there is a promotion at gamestop on feb the 22nd for getting the psvita for even less.

I would bring up the sundress again, but really I have to wait for more market saturation. My biggest mistake over the last gen was not getting Sony consoles. Now, I wonder if it's a good idea to get a PS3.

J52 has already stated it for me, I usually get more out of handhelds then I do consoles and I also feel the better and more original titles may come to PSV instead of the 3DS. It is a big purchase as I'm expecting to spend about $400 but if I get the same amount of play out of the Vita that I got from my PSP then I think I will be happy.

My 3DS is doing just fine, so I'm skipping out on the PSV.

I would instantly buy one if you could play console games on it. I saw a trailer in which the Vita somehow interfaced with the owner's PS3 at home to play games off a disc. I don't own a PS3, but if there was some way to get Dark Souls or Red Dead on the go.... *drools*

I would buy one if I could sell my old psp for a decent price, if I could sell my old psp games for a decent price, if I didn't have to pay so much for a memory card.

If the Vita was cheaper (perhaps $150?). Seriously, that is pretty much all that is stopping me from getting it day 1.

I don't care about 3G, since I don't see myself going online on my Vita.
I don't care about UMD, since I've never owned a PSP.
The software lineup so far is pretty good, so I'm not worried there.

On the 3G functionality, if your phone has a wireless tethering app, you can just tether your Vita to your phone. It's what I'm planning on doing with my iPhone. Granted I have a jailbroken iPhone :)
