Killer Instinct launched last November exclusively for the Xbox One and I honestly think that it is my favorite fighting game right now and that's saying a lot considering that I rarely play them, let alone have the skills to do more than special moves that involve half-circle motions.  The fast paced combat, great combo system and just the raw, in-your-face action in its presentation makes it wonderful to play.  In January we received Spinal, the first of two downloadable characters and today we got our first (awesome) glimpse at Fulgore, the second and final new character for season 1 of Killer Instinct.

As you can tell from the trailer above, Fulgore looks like a beast to be reckoned with and is accompanied by a soundtrack that is so metal that Nick started crying from sheer joy.  Fulgore was originally scheduled for release in March but he has been pushed back to April 9th.  This decision was made in order to have his launch coincide with the arrival of two new and much-desired features: an Arcade mode which introduces story elements to the game as well as 8-player private lobbies with newly-enabled spectating.

In addition to the Fulgore reveal, we also learned about the future of the title.  Last month we were treated to some surprising news: Double Helix, the developer by Killer Instinct, had been bought by Amazon and would be ceasing development once they've completed work on season 1 of the game.  Today, Microsoft revealed that they had selected Iron Galaxy Studios to helm season 2.  Sound familiar?  Well, they should be as IGS was responsible for one of last year's quirkiest titles: Dive Kick.  Beyond just that wonderful title, IGS has strong experience making fighting games as their pedigree includes Darkstalkers Ressurection, Marvel Vs. Capcom Origins and Street Fighter 3: Third Strike Online.

Despite the loss of the original developer, Killer Instinct's future looks like it's in good hands.  Keep an eye on the site for more KI news as we look forward to the eventual announcement of season 2.

But is it better than Vanguard Princess?

    I THINK NOT.
