With 2013 quickly entering the rearview mirror, it is almost time to look ahead at 2014. I personally feel like I accomplished a lot in terms of my gaming goals this year. I actually dabbled in PC gaming and had some exciting new experiences, I played and finished more handheld titles than ever before, and I finally played and loved the original Metroid Prime in it's entirety. Now, I have to make a decisions as to what game on my pile of shame I will tackle next on 4pp.tv. Being as incredibly indecisive as I am, I figured I would make it interesting by giving the community a say in the matter. Here are my options for the next game that I will play starting in January 2014.
Final Fantasy XIII-2
Yeah yeah. I know. There are a lot of people, myself incuded who were incredibly disappointed by Final Fantasy XIII thanks to the linearity of its world and its skill tree. With that said, Square-Enix's attempt to recoop some it's investment by shelling out numbered sequels appears to be paying off. Final Fantasy XIII-2 was generally well received and the upcoming Lightning Returns appears to be the game that fans wanted with the original release.
While I tragically left Final Fantasy XIII behind before the credits rolled, I have always appreciated the universe they created and felt like there was actually a lot to like about the lead character, Lightning. I am interested to find out exactly what improvements were made to address the problems with XIII and I DO want to get reinvested before tackling 'Lightning Returns' when it launches in early 2014.
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4
Shin Megami Tensai is a franchise that I have NEVER dabbled in. With that said, I have always been attracted to the art design and the social aspects that make it more than just another JRPG. The closest I have come to playing a Shin Megami Tensai game would be Catherine which actually landed in my top 3 games of 2011. Considering I own Persona 4 and with the highly anticipated sequel, Persona 5, recently announced, I can't help but feel like now would be a great time to jump in and play a Persona title.
Truth be told, I own both Persona 3: Fez and Persona 4 but i've been told my many people that Persona 4 is a better entry point for the series. I'm not quite sure what to expect from the series but that is the fun part! If you choose this game, it will be time to bust out the PS2 and prepare myself for another long but exciting Atlus RPG.
Metroid Prime 2: Echos
Of course, this list wouldn't be complete with the next game in the Metroid series. I absolutely adored Metroid Prime and will continue my quest to complete the trilogy in 2014 whether it's next or not. The second entry in the series seems like the biggest point of contention among fans of the franchise. I've heard from many that Echos is difficult but at the same time, incredibly rewarding. Some have even advised that I skip the game altogether. Considering my history of enjoying sequels that are often referred to as "Ugly Ducklings" (RE: Code Veronica and Resistance 2 just to name a few), I wouldn't dream of skipping this title. Either way, i've let my engines cool since finishing up Metroid Prime and i'm starting to feel the itch again. My god I hope this series gets a proper follow-up on the WiiU...

You would never finish FF XIII-2, Metroid Prime was an awesome game, dont know about 2, Persona 4, sounds like a better game to watch, and people say it's really really good.

I'm gonna have to go with Persona 4. XIII-2 is meh and I'm not fond of Prime 2 (even though I love the first one). Though I'm also one of those strange people who would likes watching other people play RPGs.

The biggest difference between Persona 3 and 4 is their tone. You would probably like 3's better, 4 is sunshine and rainbows compared to the rest of the series.

I am going to go with metroid prime 2, mainly because I feel like it is the safest game on this list and that it should be something you enjoy given that you enjoyed one (I have never played persona but it seems VERY niche). Avoid FF 13-2 at all costs xd

13-2. I'd say Persona... but honestly, I don't think you'll stick with a SMT rpg. They're hard, ridiculously long, can be a real grind, and the systems tedious to use if you're not following a guide. If you intend to play Lightning Returns then you might as well get 13-2 out of the way, it can be beaten in less time than 13, and certainly less than any of the Persona games.

I want to see some Persona 4. Final Fantasy holds no interest for me, least of all that particular one. Metroid Prime would be good, but jumping into an entirely new series sounds even better.

Im hoping Final Fantasy 13-2 because everyone hates it even though i enjoyed it a little, and have beaten both 13 and 13-2, and well be playin Lightning Returns. God i hate the final boss in 13-2, but seeing how everyone says Nick doesnt finish games i doubt he will see him if this game is chosen, LOL

I'm a die-hard RPG fanatic, and [semi-]obscure titles like Persona, Shadow Hearts, etc, have always been some of my all-time favorites.
But -- this being a timed video, they have a point about P4 being WAY too long. It's a great game, with a lot of both emotion and humor, but it's tedious at the best of times. You need the patience of Job just to finish the first four hours of play.
Much as I'd love to see P4, one of the other two would be better for a live feed. Probably something quick-paced like FFXIII-II.
