It seems to me that Frictional Games has a real grip on promoting and furthering their studio. After making a name for themselves with PC horror games, Penumbra and Amnesia, the studio has delved into a new IP while allowing another talented studio to further develop the Amnesia universe. After teasing their next big project with some unsettling live action teasers, the time has come to pull back the curtain and let the world see what SOMA actually is...

Thomas Grip, the Creative Director at Frictional Games, shined some light on the project over on the Playstation Blog this morning (I'll get to that in second...)

"So, what exactly is SOMA? Briefly stated, it is a sci-fi horror game played from a first person perspective. You are not a space marine though; you’re a normal, very exposed person trapped in a nightmarish world. SOMA is a game about exploration, survival and immersing you inside an interactive narrative."

I think we all knew what to expect from Frictional gameplay but let's be honest, that is not why we play Frictional games. Frictional is excellent at crafting beautiful, lovecraftian, horror experiences. So it should be easy to see why i'm excited to see them take on a drastically different setting while still focusing on the themes that they do so well.

Frictional has indeed confirmed that SOMA is coming to PC and PS4 in 2015. That's right, a Frictional Game is coming to consoles. Whether this is in downloadable form or retail form has yet to be seen (my money is on downloadable) but I am excited to see yet another indie studio move up in the world. The game was met with a warm welcome to PC crowds but many console gamers have yet to experience the magic of a Frictional game. This can only bode well for the studio by increasing their fanbase and making their games more accessible than ever. I don't know about you but I will be all over this PS4 release when it hits.

Looks amazing SOMA is a project I will definitely be on the lookout for and knowing its from the original Amnesia team I know it won't be streamlined like the sequel was.
