At the D23 Japan Expo, the folks at Square Enix released 96 seconds of gameplay from the just-barely-in-development Kingdom Hearts III. And it is pretty.

Sora still has the same basic combo, but as with other games in the franchise, the real fun of the combat system seems to be where his abilities jump off from that point. Check out the brief appearance of what look like dual guns at around the thirty second mark, which offer a tantalizing glimpse of what may be a larger arsenal for our intrepid hero.

There's also a graphically impressive moment on a pirate ship (could it be a summon?) and the Disney train circling around a very big and very unfinished-looking boss monster (Edit: I'm a dummy. That boss is the Rock Titan from KH1 and KH Re:Coded.). All of these represent likely the only working slivers of gameplay present in the game so far and are merely snapshots of what the team is hoping to accomplish with the final product, so try not to be too underwhelmed when Sora, Donald, and Goofy don't actually do a heck of a lot within the train and instead try to dream up the possibilities.

Considering series creator Tetsuya Nomura stated the game was shown perhaps too early, it's impressive that there is any footage to be shown at all, much less in-game footage. It's a nice tease, but let's hope the game doesn't follow the schedules of Final Fantasy XIII or Versus/XV. Our expectations, and Square's stock prices, just can't take that.

Kingdom Hearts III will release some day in the future for the Playstation 4 and the Xbox One.

I'm just happy to see the game is in development. I've always loved the vibe and the concept of the series. It's early but i'm glad to see Square staying committed to furthering the core of the series after so long. *looks menacingly at Valve*

The graphics here kinda remind me of windwaker hd. Unfortunately it will probably be a while since we see this project see the light of day.

The 'very unfinished boss monster' is actually the Rock Titan from Hercules. Although it looks simple, that's just how he looks. He's made appearances in the past two games. Just sayin'.

I promised myself I was done with this series after all the bullshit handheld side games. I am really trying to resist getting suckered back in with this game.
