Hey did you hear? No? Well gag me with a chainsaw, I should have known as much. Well let me tell you, video games are sooo passee that only smelly losers play video games now. Yeah you heard me, sorry to tell you that you're just not one of the cool kids. You're not a Heather.

No, us awesome cool kids are modding video games now. Minecraft modding, Skyrim modding and now the newest thing, Cdprojeckt Red modding.

News of modding tools for the Witcher series hit last October but this is the first look we're getting at the engine and architecture behind the idea. From the outset it looks similar to the Skyrim Creation Kit in it's form and function but I'm really excited about its utilization of Witchers battle systems...something that Skyrim is unfortunately lacking in.

This is also one of those times where I say to myself, “I'm going to get that and create BRAND NEW WORLDS!” but then I look at everything else thats needs to be done and decide to leave it up to the people who have time. Much like that time I really wanted to start making Wolfenstein 3D levels. Wait...maybe I should get started on that.

First thing that came to my mind was people recreating the first Witcher game within the Witcher 2 engine.

    I'd pay for that!

There are a few screen shots out now of environments beta testers have created: http://imgur.com/a/bvFs2

Can't wait for an inevitable created levels in the sewers!

I'd also add in that fighting the Salamandra/Spider-cult-like-enemies in the first Witcher after discovering their uh... "Lair" by accident was surreal. I'd love to see that sort of feeling recreated with this tool or again in The Witcher 3. Though this is one of my favourite series, the sense of exploration in The Witcher 2 was a step back. You could discover some things, but it wasn't often or overly memorable. Unlike getting attacked by a monster after entering an abandoned house in The Witcher 1 and jumping out of my chair, or my above mention. I feel like with an open world in the next game and with the ability to create new environments we could see some incredible "hidden" experiences (e.g. casting Aard on a rock wall to reveal a hidden cave with a quest inside, perhaps some exclusive loot, or using Igni to burn away a thick growth of vines to reveal a new passage). The potential for discovery in the world and finding experiences that aren't explicitly mentioned and take you by surprise is something I feel this series could easily include and it enhances immersion so much.
