Nintendo has announced a new top-down Zelda will be coming to the 3DS during the Holiday Season of 2013.
This new Zelda will be taking place in the world of A Link to the Past and feature a 2.5D perspective and vertical aspects to dungeon crawling and puzzle solving. Link will also have the ability to pop into walls -in a Paper Mario sort of way- to move around dungeon obstacles.
I've never played a Zelda game on my DS. Having no interest in choo-chooing around in Spirit Tracks and completely letting Phantom Hourglass pass me by, this might be one to finally get me back into the handheld iteration of the series due, almost solely, to its retro feel. We'll see.

I'm all for a proper 2D Zelda. I also like how Link doesn't talk in the trailer. The voice clips they added to the GBA port of LttP were really annoying.
