Mario Party for the 3DS was another of today's announcements, and while it contained few surprises, there were still a few gameplay additions explained to spice things up a little bit.

While the game retains the same basic concept as all Mario Party games -roll dice, move around the gameboard, screw over your friends- there are now seven different gameboards, each of which contains features which will affect the way the game is played. Examples of this include a board focusing on player getting boosts to multiply their number of moves, and one where players have to test their luck by deciding when to hide in cover and went to move forward on the board, hoping to not be struck by Bullet Bills.

The minigames appear as varied as ever, with use of 3DS' unique features promised, though we'll need more details on the specific minigames to know for sure. Things on display included fishing, racing, puzzles, and basically everything you'd expect from Mario Party. Because some games can go by very quickly, Iwata said that the game can be very easily played while on the go.

Mario Party for the 3DS doesn't contain too many huge surprises, but it does look fun, and will at least be worth keeping an eye on as we approach its release date this winter.

Really not too terribly excited about this. The market is flooded with Mario Party games and I feel they would work better on the big screen, anyway.

I've played past Mario Party games and they are fun, if you have a group of friends playing with ya. However, the formula is getting old and unexciting. I hope this not the blockbuster they think we have been waiting for, because that would just be disappointing.
