Usually when I come upon a cheaply-made Youtube video of a sketchy-looking guy rambling about a video game I pass right by it, but when it comes to Hideo Kojima games, I tend to give them a second look. This video might- might- be worth that second look.

What we have here is a bandaged individual not dissimilar to the mysterious Joakim Mogren who served as Kojima's alter-ego during the incredibly not at all convincing period of time in which it was claimed that The Phantom Pain was not Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. The individual, who introduces himself as Mr. Oni, speaks in riddles, which is an accurate enough replication of Kojima's scripts, and declares that "I have to keep my identity secret for a little while, for a good reason."

A sentence to make note of, as Mr. Oni himself points out, is:

"I am the one you thought I would be from the start."

We are encouraged to "look closer, detectives," and fans are speculating that this is none other than the franchise's lead actor David Hayter, who up until this point had declared that he is not a cast member of Metal Gear Solid V, as there really isn't anyone else in this project who we thought would be a cast member from the start.

Weirdly, there is a possibility this is in fact Kiefer Sutherland -bear with me, here- as the bandaged figure in the only thus far released gameplay video sounds exactly like him, and Mr. Oni's declaration that "I am a Hollywood actor and I do voiceovers and my voice was used in many popular computer-animated movies" doesn't particularly match up with Hayter's resume. Sutherland, on the other hand, is indeed a Hollywood actor who has provided his voice for animated movies.

No matter which way this turns out, it is kind of fun to get lost in the mystery of it all. No one runs a marketing campaign like Hideo Kojima does.

Or this is just a weird Youtube video.

Thanks to reddit for digging this up.

The channel is OnigawaraV. I googled onigawara and got that it is a Japanese roof architecture that tends to depict ogres. Wasn't ogre a codename Kojima used for MGSV? Maybe this guy is just creative.

David Hayter isn't a Hollywood star and he hasn't really done that many voices for animated movies.

Do not get your hopes up.
