Bungie also made a showing at GDC this week, giving people a sneak peak at the continuing development of character assets found in their upcoming game Destiny. It's a nice grassroots look at the creative process. Characters are shown from concept to bare-bones models, all the way up to final form which -I must say- have a real nice look to them. Almost cell-shaded which allows the details of the model to stand out in stark contrasts.
Of course this is all blanketed in the fact that I'm not even really sure what Destiny is yet. So far we've been told it's a sci-fi FPS set in a persistent online world where you play as a guardian of the last city on earth. A world that can be effected by the actions of other players in multiple ways. That's the basics.
Player characters will be highly customizable and the entire thing will be based around a hub world described as “Destiny’s third person social space to refuel, repair, and rearm before going out on your next adventure.” Destiny is sounding more and more like an MMO-type game the more I hear about it. And I don't mean that as a bad thing. A high level of social interaction is one of the things that console game have been slow to find their way around. Embracing that element shouldn't be a bad thing, even if “MMO” is currently a dirty word.
