I have to admit, even with my concerns about this game I've been finding the developments fascinating. I don't hide the fact that I disliked Heavy Rain but it appears that Quantic Dream keeps making decisions that separate Beyond: Two Souls from that hot mess. David Cage piqued my interest by recently demoing new gameplay sections that showcase the relationship between Jodie and Aiden, and show off the new combat style that drops the Quick Time Events which plagued most of Heavy Rain. It appears that the right analog stick will be used to control the combat in bullet time-like sequences and we see Jodie kicking, punching and blocking while training in the video below.

The drop of QTE shifts the gameplay from mindless button-mashing to embodying more natural and fluid movements. Instead of pressing the circle button to dodge, it appears that you simply dodge by moving in the appropriate direction. I think this is a noteworthy change as I grow very tired very quickly from meaningless prompts that break the immersion in an action game. Instead of being told what I should be pressing, this video implies that I will do what I feel I should be doing if I was in Jodie's shoes.
On another lighter note, it appears that there is also no "Press X to Aiden" prompt:

Could be interesting, though I wouldn't mind seeing what's actually being done on the controller during bullet time, or at least what happens if you don't input the correct movement. Something to clarify the logic a little bit. Also, you might want to update the post with the 30fps versions linked in the descriptions under both videos.

I don't believe the combat and fighting in the video. I had a conversation with my father about the movie Muay Thai Warrior. My father and I are martial artists, so we discuss action sequences in these movies from a martial artist's perspective. I saw it before he did, so he asked me this odd question:
"Was there too much story to the fighting?"
Of course I looked at him like he was crazy. So he explained that when there is "too much story to a fight scene"; the fighters in an action sequence are beaten down and exhausted, but can still hit hard and do a lot of shoryukens like they're still in peak condition.
I realize now after seeing the combat that my father was talking about the body language in an action sequence. I call bullshit to how well Ellen Page is fighting, regardless of her character's sixth sense. A lot of the strikes don't look like they're generating any power and come across awkardly to me. The power of a strike comes from the hips! I see a fuck ton of arm punches which don't have as much power to them.
David Cage is drowning BTS with too much action. It is suppose to be about ghosts and the afterlife. Instead, the earlier trailers show Ellen Page turning SWAT members into ghosts and sending them to the afterlife. The chemistry between Willem Dafoe and Ellen Page is the saving grace for this game. Have you seen the behind the scenes trailer w/ Willem Dafoe? Because it proves BTS has way better acting power than Indigo Prophecy and Heavy Rain combined.

The more I see of Beyond, the more it seems like a half-way house between the completely bananas Indigo Prophecy and Heavy Rain's attempt at gritty realism. Of course, it could still go off the rails like Indigo Prophecy did. I would be lying if I said that the idea of Ellen Paige being chased by invisible fluorescent green gnats wasn't entertaining.
