Prey 2 has been a major topic of discussion since we saw a demonstration of the game at E3 2011. The game quite simply blew our minds and captured our imaginations in ways that I didn't think was possible for a game in this genre. The public got a small taste of that demonstration at PAX Prime 2011 but it has missing in action ever since. Bethesda commented on the project, denying its cancellation but confirming that the game was delayed while they addressed quality concerns. Not long after this, rumors began to spread that the game was being handed off to another developer or even being sold by Bethesda outright. Of course, the real concern was that the project would never again see the light of day.

Thanks to some sleuthing at the NeoGaf boards and the guys at Joystiq, a teaser site (aliennoire.com)has been discovered that is hinting that Prey 2 is far from dead. A cryptic countdown clock is included on the page and is supposedly counting down to March 1, 2013. Neogaf supposedly managed to snag some of the original sites source code which included several not-so-subtle clues that confirm the imminent announcement. Of course, the website could always turn out to be a clever ruse.

The source code of the webpage includes the use of several interesting style tags (<alien>) and an html comment that states "Tommy needs your help" -- a reference to the hero of the original Prey. In addition to all of this, the color scheme and use of cryptic fonts seem to channel the feel of the series.

I am excited to see if this ultimately leads anywhere but I am also scared to see how much the game has changed since its original debut. The unique use of noire elements, parkour traversal, and investigation mechanics are core to what made the game so appealing. I only hope these have not been scaled back in favor of something a little bit safer. The last thing I want is to see Prey 2 pull a Fuse; I'm looking at you Insomniac! Only time will tell if this proves to be legit but we may get a look at the game again very soon!

    FINALLY!
I just hope the clock is not counting down to confirmation of the game's cancellation.

Those source code hints are obviously meant for fans to find.

I am also fearful that this reveal will not reflect what we saw at E3. I hope I am just paranoid.
