As some of you know, I really like mechs, robots...really any big piece of machinery of any form of function gets me going. Robotech, however, always alluded me somewhat. Maybe it was the strictly comic-book / anime foundation, or maybe the inherent 'lightness' of the series? The robotech PlayStation 2 games never did all that much for me either.

This however looks like something I can get into. What you're about to see is a trailer for a fan-made Robotech movie currently in production in Argentina, written by Jorge Luis Sucksdorf and directed by Cesar A. Turturro; an Argentine filmmaker who's previous works include animations and documentaries. Two talents, which you'll notice, that give a nice gritty yet FX-filled look to the project.

The plot, taken from the films Facebook page and put through google translate reads,

In 1999 an alien spacecraft fell on a South Pacific island and humanity was struck by the sign of a truly advanced technology, with an unimaginable firepower

The whole planet arms collaborated with a project based on what they had discovered. When they called “Technology Robotech”, should understand, manipulate and develop what was found on that ship.

In a remote town in South America, a group of scientists working against collaborating with the construction of the first multipurpose variable fighter plane called: Veritech VF1X.

In 2005, they are about to discover something very powerful … Human ambition to reach beyond any price would bring catastrophic consequences.

An event that would forever change the reality, a secret that would remain in the strictest of silence for years and only now released.

Pretty straigh forward, but definitely watch the trailer. For a franchise that never received the 'Hollywood Treatment', they're doing a great job so far.

I feel as tho this fan-made film wouldn't get the attention it deserves. I have made a few films now and then and I would feel that the people that actually go through this process are the very few that would admire the aspects of this fan-made film.
