Anyone who is eagerly awaiting the highly anticipated Bioshock Infinite and wants a titbit of information about the game's development process might be interested to learn that Ken Levine, Bioshock Infinite's creative director, has altered some of the game's content based on discussions he has had with members of the development team.

In an interview with Official Playstation Magazine, Levine said, "One of the characters in the game was highly altered based upon some very interesting conversations I had with people on the team who came from a very religious background, and I was able to understand they were kind of upset about something."

However, he explained that he wasn't going to alter Bioshock Infinite over the idea that it might risk offense. "What I said to them was, ‘I’m not going to change anything to get your approval, but I think I understand what you’re saying and I think I can do something that’s going to make the story better, based on what you said'", he said. "So I did that, and I’m grateful for them bringing in their perspective. The last thing I wanted to do was change something because it offends somebody, but the thing they pointed out was making it a lesser story."

The first Bioshock was one of the more political, confrontational games of this generation for those who were willing to explore its objectivist themes, and I have high hopes that Bioshock Infinite will offer an equally engaging, mature storyline. Levine tackled the concept of free will and deconstructed the philosophy of Ayn Rand with Bioshock. Let's hope that he can make Infinite just as provocative and thematically interesting.

Bioshock Infinite is set for a March 26th release date.

Why do people have to get offended by everything? We're not in the dark ages anymore.

Somehow that still sounds like it is being changed mostly to not offend rather than to improve the story.

I'm still very excited for this. I just need to upgrade my PC before it comes out.

I think Ken Levine is trying to reach a common ground. its not about how offensive the content is, but having hearing all sides to form better political sub-themes. I think the story changes wont be drastically altered and gameplay will probably remain unscathed.

I think "but the thing they pointed out was making it a lesser story" is the key part of the quote.

I'm curious to see what character was altered and the specifics why.

While not a religious person myself, I have always loved it in video games. A good example of that is how it is handled in Morrowind.
