Finally we're getting more information about GTA V other than random screens of the leisurely activities available in Los Santos (the current setting of the new game). Gameinformer's December cover shows three protagonists this time around, a departure from previous installments.

Playing as a surly dirty looking older white male, an African American man and, what is reporting to be, an east coast gangster looking to turn around his ways, you'll be switching off between the three characters as you progress throughout the story. Of course the presumption here is three different story arcs that will run throughout.

Personally I always loved the character of Niko, and my one reservation would be that jumping around from person to person might dilute any character attachment the player may feel. Conversely, this is also feeling all very Reservoir Dog / Pulp Fiction in its execution and I'm a big fan of those approaches as well.

Check out the GI cover below.

Didn't expect this but I am impressed. Rockstar aren't afraid to play with the formula and that's what keeps me a fan. Also, I hate to be that guy Joseph but it's 'Niko'. Just in case you give a monkeys.

Multiple protagonist didn't hurt Yakuza - infact I think it made it better.

We all know Rockstar makes fantastic characters, just look at Nico, Johnny and Luis from GTA 4 and the expansions. Each character was a blast to play and provided insight into three very different view points of the city.

I'm confident Rockstar will knock this one out the park - day one purchase for me.

loved your description of "a surly dirty looking older white male." Also, I don't think playing as multiple characters will hurt the attachment: look at Episodes from Liberty City. You get to see the stories of Luis and Johnny, and how they intertwine with Niko's story and you eventually get the full story of Liberty City.

Also, the gent on the far right looks like an older Tommy Vercetti to me...Hopefully we'll know more about who these men are in the months to come. I no longer have GI subscription :(

I think it would be really cool if the "east coast gangster looking to turn around his ways" is Tommy Vercetti. Sounds enough like Ray Liotta in the trailer

I'm very excited. Rockstar, I have confidence in you. Just don't have people calling foul on your sweatshop busyness strategy that you keep getting with these open world games. Not cool.

Maybe they will let us choose which protagonist to use and maybe play the game on their perspectives. Anyways, already pre-ordered this game, can't wait for more information on it.

I'm just glad it's looking more and more like san andreas and less like IV.
