Yes, you are reading that correctly. Today Disney has acquired both Lucas Films and Lucas Arts from George at the cost of $4 billion. This means a lot of changes are coming to the franchise (aside from just a new movie). If you wanna hear about that, you should read about it on my Twitter *hint hint*. But Lucas Arts being acquired means the future of Star Wars games could change drastically.

Now, Star Wars games have always been hit and miss. For every Knights of the Old Republic we would get some kind of nonsense like Star Wars: Kinect. One thing to keep in mind; though, is that Disney has been scaling back its video game projects over time and there is always the possiblity Star Wars games could become less and less; and not just in numbers.

From Disney's CEO, Robert Iger:

"We're likely to focus more on social and mobile than we are on console. We'll look opportunistically at console, most likely in licensing rather than publishing, but we think that given the nature of these characters and how well known they are, and the storytelling, that they lend themselves quite nicely, as they've already demonstrated to the other platforms."

Disney is focusing its games to be more aligned with iOS and mobile games. This means Star Wars 1313 could possibly be the last major Star Wars game we see released for some time. Speaking of 1313, a Lucas representative said that:

"For the time being all projects are business as usual. We are excited about all the possibilities that Disney brings."

So, as far as we know, 1313 is still in production and planned to be released. As to how much Disney will influence the production of the game, only time will tell. All of this news certainly could mean we see more Star Wars: Kinects or even a resurgence of Lego Star Wars, but Disney has always catered to a wide audience in terms of age. Future Star Wars games, whatever they may be, are more than likely not going to be dumbed down or made purely for children. If Disney does greenlight future Star Wars titles for the consoles and PC, all we have to hope is these games are put in the hands of the right studio.

Just so long as we don't end up with Kingdom Star Wars Marvel Hearts I'm ok with this. Even if Lucas is looking over the Star Wars license getting some new directors or fresh ideas can't hurt. If it does then Disney is going to have shot themselves in the foot... though they will probably get their $4 billion back off of Episode 7 alone. Even though everyone will probably hate it.
