Yes, it's a bit silly to be asking about a sequel to a game we've only just finished, but when you've completed a great thing it's only natural to covet more. While talking to Kotaku, Dishonored design executive Harvey Smith said that he was conflicted about thepossibility of a sequel. And though reception has been high for the game, there is also that temptation to close the book and move on.

"Part of me would love to see future games leverage this world," he said, "and part of me would love it if the vault door was just closed and that's it. This is your one view into the Empire of the Isles and into the city of Dunwall."

Asked if he was leaning one way or the other, he responded, “I can't say.”

As much as I absolutely loved Dishonored, there is certainly something poetic about closing the book on this story. It forces us to cherish the game as-is, continue to explore the nooks and off-the-path alleyways in an attempt to get our fill. And it forces us to reinvest in the game, instead of simply laying back and waiting for the next iteration.

Maybe some things are better left standing alone.

it would be hard with a game like dishonored, depending on how the story wraps up it could be troublesome. Also if they dont change the setting it could have less of an impact....ala bioshock two. I really want them to continue with the mechanics tho especially the blink ability. You know a bunch of devs will be looking to rip that off eventually.

better to just change the characters, time, and setting all together...ala bioshock infinite.

I agree. Even though I loved the game, it's a lot more interesting to see what else Harvey and Arkane can come up with. I don't want them to limit their themselves by sticking to the one IP.

I can't say for sure since I haven't finished the game, but I do think more developers should be willing to close the door on sequels. There are some games whose value only diminishes when you try and tack things on arbitrarily (Bioshock 2) regardless of if it is the publishers choosing or not.

If it wasn't intended to be a universe for multiple games then it shouldn't be forced to be. Have conviction in what you made.

Well, if the person holding the wallet is in charge of the decision, then we can probably expect a new designer to be working on Dishonored 2.
