If you are anything like me, you appreciate when a publisher can spend the time to produce quality packaging for their games. It hurts my soul to see a great game shamed by packaging that is poorly designed and often times, down right ugly. As an industry, this has improved in recent years but it still brings a smile to my face to see a company extend a little extra effort to make sure their games grab the attention of the consumer.
Let's take a look at the new Tomb Raider packaging from Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix for instance. From a design standpoint, it seems to fall in line with the western (read: American) ideology that insists on putting the protagonist in the center of the artwork but the window dressing on this box art seems to pull it together. Of course, I often prefer a more minimalistic approach to cover art but I still feel like the design team put a fair amount of work into creating an appealing package.
Lets not forget that we played Tomb Raider at E3 this year and walked away very optimistic. Hopefully, the packaging will go a long way in attracting the eyes of window shoppers when the game launches in March of 2013!

If there is a special edition, the only way I'm buying is if it comes with a bow just like the one she uses. I'm kidding of course, the packaging looks really good for this game so when it comes out if i have the money I'll be sure to check it out, or come here and wait for the review.

I think the cover looks good, although it doesn't matter to me as I'll be getting the digital release unless there's some amazing collectors edition.
On another note I must say the 360 border really ruins to aesthetic of the cover. It surely makes the 360 version of any game box art the ugliest. The PC cover looks nicest due to the lack of extra crap.

Well as far as Tomb Raider box arts go this is pretty nice. It's all artsy & she looks like a human being for once. I hope the game isn't too desaturated though. I just can't get into grey/brown. And please let there be lots unlockable outfits. I love replaying with some new threads. It keeps things fresh. Plus it's nice when there is a bit of challenge to unlocking them, makes it feel more rewarding. I loved unlocking all the outfits in TR: Legend.
