Watch, Don't Listen, to this "Remember Me" Footage

Capcom has released some more gameplay footage for Remember Me, their cyberpunk platforming  title that we first saw about a month ago.

The game looks well and good. The platforming seems to be strong, the combat -though we can't tell how it controls- looks like it has some interesting elements, and even the graphics and visualization of a 2084 Neo Paris is right on the mark.

The biggest issue you're going to find here is with the sound. Everything from the dialogue to the soundtrack goes from alternating levels of distracting to downright terrible. With lines like "Let's play a little game where you turn yourself in and I shoot you anyway!" to a soundtrack that is inundated with electronically generated swoops and stutters, the entire sound field is a terror on the ears.

The soundtrack especially kept making me thinking that my video player was having issues. I understand what they are going for, but adding in constant slowdowns and stutters to a swooping symphonic track does nothing to add atmosphere and does everything to make you think your speakers are broken. Even the soundtrack without those distractions just seems completely soulless. With no sense of dynamic, it's straight cookie cutter action movie symphonics that could be torn out and used for any other chase sequence in any other game and for any other genera.

I would say that I hope these things will be fixed before release, but sound design is an awfully complicated and expensive part of video game production, and I fear that we're going to be left with what they have.

Hopefully everything else can make up for it, and I don't need sound to play.

The gameplay looks fantastic, I can usually get over horrid dialogue fast enough. I listened to the video with headphones on and did notice the crackling, but it didn't seem as bad. Very interesting looking game..

Not just the voice acting, the writing...

"Let's play a new game! Hunted becomes the hunter!"

"Curse you, hunter! What did you steal from me! Die!"

This may already be one of the worst moments in video game dialogue this generation. Also how could we forget...I can't believe I actually have to escape this helicopter chase whilst it's shooting at me and I've even got to slightly alter the environment before proceeding, this is truly a new experience.
Okay, I'll be honest that the premise sounds interesting and holds potential but I've never seen such a visual and aural contrast before; the dialogue and music is astoundingly awful and they could really ruin an original IP as it stands.

I'm not too sure I agree mate.

I don't know, the sound feels good and original. I like it when they try something new, thank God it isn't the inception stuff Hanz Zimmer fanboys are trying to recreate on everything nowadays.

They could have reigned in Amon Tobin or Jesper Kyd though, give it a wholly better feel.

I know background music in games/film is NOT meant to be distracting and you aren't necessarily meant to 'notice' it, it is meant to be a subliminal, subconscious thing you just go with. So maybe you're right, because I do notice it. A lot.

Am I the only one who thinks the animations need some major work. The characters look incredibly stiff in motion...

Audio aside, could her pants get any tighter? I mean I like asses as much as anyone else, but damn how does she even move in those.

Dialogue sucks, voice acting sucks, uninspired Arkham combat, bizarre art direction, platforming is clunky as hell, and a Goddamn helicopter from 2082 can't hit a single person with two 30mm cannons.

Yeah, no. Let's just keep waiting for Watch Dogs.

Your not the only one nick, those animations needs some work. The dialogue is horribly funny. I almost want to play the game just to see how much more awful it could get.

Loving Capcom as of late. These new IP's are all looking great. Dragons Dogma certainly delivered and I hope this does too. I doubt it won't with it's gameplay looking like a mix between parkour and melee combat, love it.

Her movement looks forced, not very fluid. I will keep my eyes open for this title, none the less.

I'll buy it. We need more heroines in video games. I don't know if this lady is going to be too appealing going by the dialogue though. I just wish someone would bring back BloodRayne. She's my all time favourite heroine. :)
