Announced a few days ago, Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is an open world Metal Gear game set in between Peace Walker and the original Metal Gear.  Featuring the return of Big Boss and his legendary Soldiers Without Borders unit, an organization that would eventually go on to challenge Solid Snake as Outer Heaven.  This new title seems intent to both explain this interim period as well as be a precursor to what will eventually be Metal Gear Solid 5.

Personally I find the proposition of having Big Boss beginning to challenge the Fox unit (what would eventually become Foxhound) quite interesting and probably speaks strongly toward his full-on rebellion against The Patriots.  The Big Boss of this new title seems significantly older than the Peace Walker one we last experienced (possibly in his mid-to-late 50s) and his holo-projected map indicates (and this is a wild thought) that Ground Zeroes may actually take place after Metal Gear.  A title that takes place between Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid, explaining how Big Boss survived and lived on in the shadows?  Color me fascinated.

What are your thoughts?  Please, share them in the comments.

The urge to play peace walker again has grown exponentially! If haven't played or beaten it yet, shoot me a message on Xbox and well take down the extra ops!

The gameplay footage was different/longer at the Metal Gear panel. They showed a bit of the driving with a jeep. Then Snake used flare grenades to call a transport helicopter, which played "flight of the valkyries" as it swooped in. They said it could be changed to whatever you want, but didn't specify if you'd use your own mp3's or what. They said if the chopper is spotted, it will be shot down, and louder music will make it more noticeable.

I couldn't believe it when i thought I heard Flight of the Valkyries being played by the chopper, but it brought a smile to my face. The subtle humor is there, and the open world gameplay leaves SO many options for hijinks and interesting ways to complete the objectives. The Fox engine looks amazing, and I am really look forward to seeing this game.

I like how the commentator's mistake made everyone fuck up as well. It's Ride of the Valkyries, not Flight.

Also as much as I like the Apocalypse Now reference and the ability to travel between areas, they need to be very careful as to not take too much stealth out of it. As much as I want this release to be something new and surprising, I'd like it to remain primarily a stealth game. God forbid this turn into another Conviction.
