Quite awhile ago we wrote about the "Enter the Dominatrix" expansion for Saints Row: The Third. You know, the one where you would be abducted and put into a Matrix-like version of Steelport and given superpowers.

Well it's cancelled.

Ok not completely  cancelled, but according to THQ president Jason Rubin, it's been cancelled as an expansion, and now will be incorporated into the next Saints Row game.

"When I looked at the Enter The Dominatrix expansion in production at Volition, I was blown away by the ideas and desire to expand the fiction of the franchise." he said. "I asked the team what it could achieve given more time, more resources, and a broader scope for the project. We all agreed we wanted to play that game. When it comes to Saints Row, it’s clear our fans want bigger, better, and even more over the top, and that’s why Enter The Dominatrix will now be incorporated into a vastly expanded, full-fledged sequel, scheduled for calendar 2013.”

The move will result in a loss for THQ, but if the company can withstand it and it creates a better gaming experience in 2013 then I suppose that's great for all of us.

I'm happy they're putting the expansion in the next game! THQ and volition have my support when it comes to the saints.

This is the first time I've heard of a cancellation being a benefit, for lack of a better word.

At least we know there are good things to come in SR4.

it just seems they had little to put into SR4 and decided to put this expansion in there to put the game out as soon as possible. I hope SR4 doesnt draw heavily from the expansion, I know SR is all about the crazy shit, but it looked dated visually and with GTA 5 coming out they need to step it up. Some of the missions in SR3 was soo repetitive and not really missions...protect car in helicopter, protect this person as they make a deal, protect these ppl in your car from the media.....

Yeah, that's what we need. An even MORE over the top Saints Row game. -_-

Saints Row 1 and 2 were such great games. I wish they would slow down and take a look at why people actually liked them so much. This shit sounds terrible.

Did the SR3 DLC situation not work out as well as THQ hoped?

It seemed that they were planning a lot more for a lot longer, but it felt like it dried to a trickle pretty soon and the larger DLC mission packs didn't exactly get glowing reviews.
