Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli spent some time talking to CVG recently about people's concerns surrounding the Wii U's power, and in the process let loose that there is already a CryEngine 3 game already in the works for Nintendo's next system.
"My opinion of the Wii U is very high," he said. "It's just that we didn't have a business case unfortunately that justifies us making a game for it.
"It doesn't mean that CryEngine 3 doesn't run on Wii U - it actually runs beautifully. In fact, there actually is a game in development from a respected developer that we will be announcing. I've seen the game running and it looks really great."
That's good news for Nintendo who are probably going to have a hard time reintroducing themselves to a gaming audience who have since moved over to Microsoft and Sony in the past generation. Especially since Nintendo has chosen to still link themselves, even if just in name, to the Wii. A system that many modern gamers now consider a casual machine.
As for the ability of the Wii U to run the software, Yerli doesn't know where all the concern is coming from.
"From my perspective I do not understand the public's concerns that the Wii U is weaker than PS3 and 360," he said. "That I cannot see. From my perspective the Wii U is minimum as powerful as Xbox 360."
Nintendo has already started to showcase more mature, and graphically intensive, titles at this past E3, with games like Zombi-U grabbing some pretty good attention all around. I would even argue that Project-100 is a fantastic looking game with a high amount of technical detail and artistic imagination behind it, and it's probably good for Nintendo to be getting a few years head start on its competitors. Still, after all this time it is almost hard to think of these mature, modern-gen graphics coming out of a Nintendo machine...it's been a long time since we've seen that.

I just want to see some in game footage of said title coming to the Wii U until then I don't think I can tell whether this game will be good or not.

When the ps4 is running cryengine 4 nintendo will fall back into the position it is now.

is anyone still impressed with CryEngine 3? i mean yes back then when crysis 1 came out it was the powerhouse of graphics, but now we have seen what unreal 3(watch dogs, but highly upgrades U3)/4 games can look like, the new engine from kojima productions (fox engine), the square enix engine, the quantic dream's new game beyond running their new engine....
I mean i saw crysis 3 at the EA press conference and I was bored, even visually it looks like crysis 2 with a bow.

I just don't understand this strategy from N, releasing a console that is going to be clear 3rd in power after MS and Sony release theirs. If you only care about Mario, Wii sports and similar first party Nintendo games then graphics are not that important to you because those games never had cutting age visuals. If you care about visuals and powerful hardware and looking forward to play next generation games, then why getting WiiU in the first place and not wait for new Xbox, Sony or just get a PC now.

I want Nintendo to do well. I want to see them back in the coregamer's corner. I've been a fan since the early 90s, but I really haven't had much to play on my Wii. What I do have is good, but I have half as many Wii games and I do Xbox 360 games. Third party support for Nintendo has dropped off, but maybe they can pull more support.

When it comes to Nintendo I think I am more than happy with just having a Gamecube and when I can afford to do an overhaul on my PC I'll be happy with just using Dolphin instead.
