Following the lead of the recently delayed Bioshock Infinite, Crystal Dynamics Tomb Raider has been pushed from Fall 2012 to Q1 2013.

Darrell Gallagher, head of Cryistal Dynamics broke the news via the official Eidos forums yesterday.

"A Message to the Tomb Raider Community

When Crystal Dynamics first set out to reboot the Tomb Raider franchise, there were two goals that we were extremely passionate about. The first was to create a modern Tomb Raider game that would surprise and excite gamers. The second was to make this the best game of our careers, something we would be really proud to be a part of. We truly believe that we have something very special on our hands and we can’t wait to share it with you.

Our priority now is to make sure we fully deliver the very highest quality game. In order to do this, we have decided to move the game’s release date by a few months, from Fall 2012 to the first quarter of 2013.

We’re doing things that are completely new to Tomb Raider in this game and the additional development time will allow us to put the finishing touches into the game and polish it to a level that you deserve. We believe this is the right choice and I guarantee it will be worth the wait. The game is looking amazing and we can't wait to show it to everyone at E3 in a few weeks."
The good news here, of course, is the last bit about showing the game off at E3. It does seem like they are going to have some new baubles in the bag and I'm looking forward to seeing how this title is progressing. And even though just a few months probably isn't enough to add something as ample as underwater swimming (much to Brad's discontent), it dose give them time to add a good deal of polish and flair to what is already existing.

In any case, we'll know more at E3.

I'm OK with this. I've always thought that quarter 1 (January and February) is a great time to release games. The October/November months are too packed . As for the development of the game, i hope that they understand why Tomb Raider is popular as it is. We don't need another uncharted, assassin's creed, etc. Developers shouldn't let other games influence there development of there game. ex.Hitman Absolution.

Like the Falc0npunch I'm fine with it being delayed. Delays are part of the industry. I never think a game is going to come out till a game is actually out at this point. As long as it doesn't turn into a Duke Nukem situation, it's cool. Just polish off the game and make it as good as possible, and if I can enjoy the game even more they made the smart move.

I am soooo upset, yet I am kind of glad... I've been looking forward to this game more than any other game this year. But now that they are delaying it, I guess I'm kind of glad because this means they are putting more time into it...? So excited!! Lara Croft makes me want to be a lesbian!! Just have to wait a little bit longer.

Not a huge surprise, things had been very quiet.

This is definitely a game I'm interested in giving a chance to. So I'll be hoping that this extra time is well spent and helps the end product.
