Nearly a month's worthy of controversy has consumed the gaming community over the wonderful game that is Mass Effect 3.  Last week Bioware promised an update and announcements regarding the game would be made about the game, specifically the ending, at PAX East this weekend.  It seems that the PR department has decided to make sure this does not go out with the Friday trash as EA and Bioware have announced an Extended Cut ending will be made available for free as DLC sometime this Summer.

This first big DLC announcement of what will hopefully be far more to come will provide additional cinematics and epilogue scenes on top of the game's original ending.  Bioware says that, after the fan outcry, they really took all the ending feedback to heart and decided to "reprioritize" their DLC schedule to give fans what they want.  There was no suggestion made as to how this addition directly affects their original schedule in a positive or negative manner.  I fear though that the ending DLC will force them to cut some planned content.

Also from the announcement:

“We have reprioritized our post-launch development efforts to provide the fans who want more closure with even more context and clarity to the ending of the game, in a way that will feel more personalized for each player.”

For me I feel that this is probably the best way for Bioware to addresses the masses asking for a new ending.  Providing additional details about the battle for Earth and an epilogue about the characters we've loved for half a decade should be enough to quell fans' stoked fires without compromising their original vision of the ending.  If you have beaten the game I'd ask that you read my piece from a last week back about the game's ending.

So, who amongst you are still ticked?

Glad it is going to be free, and i will play it when it is out. Did not like the ending at all, and I will remain disappointed until I play the "extended cut" ending.

Thankfully it's free. I don't doubt it'll wrap up the whole of the game though. I'm curious as to what other DLC they would make for Mass Effect 3.

This is not even remotely close to what anyone was asking for. Nobody needs "clarity" and artistic integrity went out the window the minute you installed a message that said "buy DLC Lolzors trollzors."

Nobody is acting entitled. People simply wanted what they were promised when they paid for the game. They did not get it, and reasonably they were enraged.

Adding 5 minutes of powerpoint slides and unused cutscenes is not going to change the idiocy of the starchild and his three flavors of "fuck you fans."

Will people even really care by then? Saints Row 3 was my most anticipated game of 2011, but it felt weird every month or so I went back to it to play the new mission DLC releases.

Still makes me laugh that one games ending could possibly ruin the entire franchise. People are way to upset over this

It is incredibly irritating that people still don't get what the mass of disgruntled fans were asking for. If you people would read a few effing posts on the matter you'd possibly understand that the problems with the ending had nothing to do with closure or explanation but that bioware threw out all the choices made prior to the end. I didn't want a happy ending, I wanted what I was promised by the developers. They didn't deliver and this added content BS doesn't even come close to addressing the problems that the lackluster and unimaginitive endings create. Fine, it's bioware's game, they can do what they want, but they'll do it without any money from my pocket, and I suspect I'm not alone in that respect. Mass Effect deserved better than this and it's sad that the developers do not feel that way. What's more sad for me is saying goodbye to the mass effect universe altogether.

Wow they are possibly holding back some DLC to give the wining kids there way. I loved it all the way right up to the end. And now because kids decided to cry they end up making the people it didn't bother wait on DLC possibly.

I'm willing to give it a chance. For one thing, I figure there's no way they can make the ending(s) worse.
