For now, consider this mere conjecture but it seems that one of my most highly anticipated titles of 2012 is in danger of being axed by Bethesda Softworks. Prey 2 impressed all of us at E3 2011 and was the recipient of our first ever Game of Show Award! The demonstration, which has yet to be shown in it's entirety to the general public remains largely hidden behind a veil of secrecy and the game has gone quiet since it's debut at E3 and subsequent public viewing at PAX Prime back in August.
However, things have been quiet since then and Human Head Studio/Zenimax Media have cancelled three conferences, including one scheduled for GDC a few months back. Brian Karis, lead graphics programmer at Human Head Studios took to twitter during that time to comment:
Yes, Zenimax forced us to pull all Prey2 related talks from GDC. I'm pretty devastated by the news. This was to be my first conf talk. - Brian Karis
We are trying our hardest to get the decision reversed but for now all 3 are canceled. - Brian Karis
And that brings us to today, when posters on NEOGAF noticed a story at PS Focus crediting a "reliable source" that the game has been cancelled, and that Bethesda would be making an official announcement sometime next week. Of course normally it would be easy to take this news from a 'reliable source' with a grain of salt. However Bethesda, when reached for comment by numerous game sites, has not entirely refuted the rumor, only saying that they 'Are not commenting on this story."
We'll update as the story unfolds. Right now everyone is working on conjecture and Bethsda isn't talking.

When those Doom 4 shots were leaked and rumors of it being cancelled rose up, Bethesda was quick to say that the project was not cancelled. But they won't say anything about this? It's a little suspicious.

Please let this be some kind of sick april fools joke. Bethesda released Hunted: Demons forge and Brink and those 2 games sucked donkey balls, theres no way prey 2 is worse than those. maybe its just too ambitious to finish within budget with the open world on an alien planet and everything. Damn that sucks, it was really one of my most anticipated of 2012
