Movies based on video games never have an easy ride. Usually, if they aren't just scuttled completely, they are marred with over inflated (or minimalist) budgets, delays, multiple directors and -of course- a myriad of Hollywood producer types who have become something like the monster generators in Guantlet, but instead of monsters they spew out bad ideas.

Slowly but surely, it looks as though the Bioshock movie might be on the same ride.

The movie, first announced in 2008, has now had its second director leave the roll according to Gamespot. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, director of 28 Weeks Later,  has moved off the project after original director Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean) moved into the roll of producer.

"To be honest, by now, I'm completely out of that, and developing other stuff," Fresnadillo told the site at a press junket for his new film Intruders. "Right now it’s on hold. The studio and the video game company, they have to reach some kind of agreement about the budget and the rating."

Production of the movie was originally halted in 2009 after the movie studio would only approve the budget of a PG-13 rendition of the movie. Verbinski, at the time, halted production calling the request 'unacceptable' and it seems those kinks have yet to be worked out.  Modern movie studios apparently are unaware of the older demographic gamers now incorporate,  and if much of the dribble now put to large screens is any indication, it might just be better if no Bioshock movie is made at all.

Honestly, I forgot they were even making a Bioshock movie. I'm thinking it's a little too late for that now though since the majority just moves onto other films. I'm not sure how well it would have done with a silent protagonist either.

I have a feeling it would suck if they made it.
Probably not going to be a hit with alot of people.

As much as I adore Bioshock, I think this project needs to be axed and shelved in the past. Games and film have many similarities, but translating the former into the latter makes the idea lose a lot of its flavour and intrigue.

Pg-13 rating? I'm pretty sure Bioshock was M.

Anyways, I'm sort of glad its being delay, I don't want anyone to butcher a greater story and characters.

The new Pirates of the Caribbean was was god damn terrible because Bloom and Knightley were off the project, substituted by Penelope Cruz who ruins every movie she is in. I think a movie directed by that guy would be a joke.

I really have to think hard to come up with a game-movie that didn't suck. I think Doom wasn't that bad, at least the movie wasn't PG-13.

How about not make a movie at all and realize that Bioshock is a piece of art that's stands tall and proud in it's own entertainment medium, as well as with all other games. :o
