Irrational Games has released a new trailer showing off the Handyman enemy we'll be meeting in Bioshock: Infinite.

Of course, one can take a look at the oversized, gorilla-esque heavy hitter and recognize it as a type of character we've certainly seen before in video games. But Ken Levine let's loose that there is more to this character than meets the eye. He calls it a certain "Sadness in how they are created" but stops short of giving away any information that might end up being a spoiler. I like this approach, and it's the addition of this sort of detail that makes Ken Levine the great developer he is.  Not content with the outlayer of frosting, there is always something good and meaty within the cake he's baking.

Going through the original design concepts of the Handyman is interesting as well, though I find myself partial to the mustached version myself.  Something about him seems more 'human' and not so much dock-worker-meat-head that we usually see cast into these roles.

Loving these introduction to character vids, but I'm a little disappointed that Ken emphasises that theres many of them, and they go on to say how many different designs they had. But then they say they settled on one look for them.

Would have been nice to see some in different stages. Fully clothed, exposed heart, exposed workings. Can't really see how their backstory can be all that interesting if they all look the same.

Big heavy hitters with a sad story regarding their creation... seems like the Handymen will be this game's Big Daddies of sorts. That shoulder charge in the end was really Big Daddy-like too.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see how much these guys really differ from Big Daddies in the end. They seem interesting nevertheless, especially with that steam-punk vibe Bioshock Infinite has emphasized strongly in.
