I JUST WANT TO BE LOVED, IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK

It's Valentines Day!  While many of you out there either have a well conceived plan to woo your significant other or are scrambling to find something quick for her that will inevitably fail and leave you out in the cold, we here at 4Player love you despite your bastard cheating ways.  We understand.  For the sad souls like myself who just want to be LOVED and are romantically challenged at the moment we can find solace in the fact that the Mass Effect 3 demo arrived today.  So take heart fellow gamers whose hands are the only things to feel romantic about right now: we're covered.

For the rest of you cheating, love-struck bastards out there though we won't deny you sweet Mass Effect 3 goodness.  After all, today is a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario as you can't enjoy Mass Effect 3's demo without ticking off your significant other for cancelling your date; neither can you go out on said date without resigning yourself to having to wait another 24 agonizing hours to play as Sheppard.  Luckily for you though I have a solution that'll make everybody happy.

Gaming website Ve3troGamesMedia was able to get their hands on the Mass Effect 3 demo and streamed the first 40 minutes for the world to see.  You can watch it below.  You don't need to thank me: just remember that the next time you have a lovely single lady friend with a passion for gaming be sure to think of your favorite 4Player staff member on the Citadel, Chris.

Argh... I can't decide whether I should keep myself in suspense over Mass Effect 3 or go ahead and watch it.

Sorry but this looks like shit, more rpg elements my ass. And the dialogs that they show in this video are simply shallow, vapid and just overall badly written. I am really hoping that this isn't the peak of biowares writing capabilities for me3. Seriously do.

I'm actually on a coffee break as I write this, mind you I am not a big coffee drinker by any means. I would like to quarantine ME2 lovers by saying if you truly loved the second game in this series, you'll more than likely dig this one.

As for me, a lot of the gripes I had with the ME2 I still have with ME3. the shooting for me still isn't fluid, and without a fluid shooting experience the enemies are going to trample you constantly. With that being said, you are forced in cover that is still pretty sticky.there is still no blind fire unfortunately, so you'll beexchanging damage with the enemy like a swap meet. I will say the the super melee attacks never get old, and depending on what class you choose it has a different animation(vanguard animation is sweet). I still dislike how we have to find armor and gun upgrades on the path and I still dislike having to scout for thermal clips on the ground, but that's just me.

I won't beat the dead horse anymore about the dialogue and the "choices" you make, but I will comment on the cutscene graphics. I won't say they're terrible, but there is something off putting about them that I just can put my finger on. One of the greatest parts about the demo was the major nostalgia factor! I was happy to hear liara, wrex, and Garrus again :D

Well that's it for me :p

Parts looks OK, and others bad. This is just 40 minutes of a (hopefully) 30 hour game.

What shits me most about ME is how it tried to be Gears of War, but without the good parts, and tried to be an RPG, without the good parts, so we're left with a shallow shooter with awkward animations with no RPG depth.

And my little pet peeve is the animations, I know, I know, but having Shepard point her gun in everyone's face annoys the hell out of me.

That said, I'll play it, and I won't rent it. Probably just wait for the best price in my country.

I'm actually expecting a bit of a ME3 backlash, simply because...well, that's generally what historically tends to happen in these situations over the years, whether it's videogames or books or films or whatever.

How big it is depends on how good ME3 actually is, but I'm stone cold certain it'll happen in some respect. When something is hailed as the best thing since sliced bread, the Mass Effect franchise in this case, some people will always start thinking about kicking at the pedastal.

Now, I haven't played the demo. I've been as spoiler-free as possible for ME3 in general, I know very little and I'm happier that way. It could be disappointing anyway, could genuinely be the worst game of the trilogy, I'm not saying any potential criticism is all going to be like this. But I am expecting a good chunk of it to be that way.

Am I making sense? I dunno. I love ME1 and ME2, so they're doing something right so far.
