Dear Esther was originally a Source engine mod released in 2008 by thechineseroom, a mod team at the University of Portsmouth lead by researcher Dan Pinchbeck. Dear Esther eschews traditional systemic game design and focuses on telling a story by exploring a space.

The remake features completely redone environmental art by Robert Briscoe, who previously worked on Mirror’s Edge. It is also the second released game (the first being Q.U.B.E.) funded by the Indie Fund, a collective of independent developers whose goal is to help other independent developers get and stay financially independent.

I'm not a graphics whore by any means, but I may pick this up just for how beautiful it is.

To believe it was made in the recent iteration of Source...Holy shit, I want this. Not just for the visuals and art, but for the experience, the music, and the beautifully poetic, and eerie, story.
