It just seems like we can't get away from Resident Evil these days.  I love the series to be sure but I'd appreciate it if we got some news from Capcom that didn't involve zombies.  It seems that my pleas have gone unheeded however as Capcom felt that now was a good time to release more details and screenshots of Resident Evil 6.  Here are the facts:

    • The game takes place in 2013, not 2008.
    • Chris Redfield is sent to a fictional Chinese coastal town called Lanshiang.
    • Chris Redfield is also experiencing a form of PTSD after a undergoing a "personal trauma six months prior."
    • Helena Harper, Leon Kennedy's new partner, is a newly assigned Secret Service agent assigned to protect Adam Benford, the sitting (now zombified) President.  Benford was the man who hired Leon and served under Ashley Graham's father.
    • The zombies seen in the game are not infected with the T-virus.  They can also run, jump and use weapons against the player.
    • The J'avo, the BOW shown in the Eastern Europe sections of the trailer is named for the Serbian word meaning 'demon.'  The J'avo is capable of understanding human speech, working in groups and using weapons.  A J'avo can regenerate after taking damage but can also mutate body parts for different function should they incur too much damage.
    • Resident Evil 6's control scheme has been revamped to include strafe shooting, the ability to slide and roll anywhere and the addition of "enhanced melee attacks."
    • The game, as it stands, is currently 50% complete.

Here are the new screenshots, all pulled from the trailer.  Enjoy!

I don't really like how Capcom handles their business, but I have to say I'm excited for this Resident Evil and I'm not really sure why.

Ugh, that's one thing I was afraid of. I'm not all that happy about the zombies (or infected) being able to use weapons. I hope that the weapons they use will stick to melee with (preferably) no guns whatsoever... but that probably won't be the case. Still looking forward to this game, mostly for the Co-op.

Why is having the Umbrella Corporation as an enemy far more intimidating than everything we've gotten in Resident Evil 4 and 5? As nice as it was seeing an old nemesis (no pun intended) behind Resident Evil 5's plot, it just didn't feel like it had the scale it could have. I wish they would do more with the Umbrella Corp. instead of just throwing it in the gutter.

Sounds cool I suppose. My biggest concern at the moment is how the control scheme is going to be set up. The higher level of fidelity sounds great. I hope they can find a button layout that is functional and comfortable to use.

Still more excited for Operation Raccoon City at this point, but so far this seems to be coming along okay.

Run and jump? Cool. "Can also use weapons against the player." Knives and all that? Sure why not. But if even 1/4 of the game contains any zombies shooting at me.. I will start flipping tables.
