It makes me very excited to be writing about this news. Not only for the content itself, but also for the fact that if the rumor mill is going this hard, then something must surely be coming soon.

First off, the magazine PSM3 is currently reporting that inside sources have leaked that the PS4's early specs are "more powerful" than those which will be found within the Xbox 720 (working title obviously). Something that any developer would want to get out there, but it also matches up with an article from Xbox World,  published at the same time, claiming that the Xbox 720 will be beating the PS4 to market and will be focusing on "utility and innovation" and will feature Kinect 2.0 on the system right out of the box.

Of course, this gives Sony the little extra time, and the development breathing room to be less innovative and yet more powerful. Makes sense. Microsoft has been trying to get the Xbox to be an "Entertainment Center" for a number of years now, while Sony has continued to focus on core gaming.

Trade magazine MCV is also reporting that both Microsoft and Sony have indicated to third parties that they intend to reveal the new consoles at E3 2012 in an attempt to not only make a splash, but to also extinguish any bump Nintendo might be getting from their re-try at revealing the Wii-U after their somewhat confusing E3 2011 presentation.

The reports of an E3 2012 reveal had actually come some time ago when Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot made the statement, but it was quickly shot down by Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan who was either trying to give us the truth, or keep the cat from getting out of the bag.

As much as you can dispel all of this as simply "rumor", they do all line up well, and are certainly reflective of where the big three are headed with their next console lineup. And, if I do say so myself....it's about time for a new generation.

Let's just remember what happened to the PS3s hardware specs from SDK to retail. Kojima still remembers those nights crying into his Japanese love pillow of Raiden, hoping that tomorrow will be the day where all the pain goes away.

I thought that next gen gaming is hard to imagine since all the motion control nonsense was the next step but turned out to be a failure. I think I'm starting to see what you meant about "Sony Winning" in that tweet of yours a while ago. I don't feel that excited for next gen because I think it would just be more of current generation style for a period of time before the next gen shows its true characteristics.

Funny enough, this is the first generation when i really don't care all that much about the next gen. Maybe it's because graphics can only get incrementally better, or that the focus on motion controls might inhibit other "core" innovations.

The only thing I can think of that would really be improved from better specs would be being able to play battlefield 3 on consoles with 64 players.

Can we blame Nintendo for starting all this? For starting the rush to make new consoles.
What happen to PS3's 10 year plan? We're only like half way through it.

I'm not looking forward to new consoles (especially the PS4, since I like my PS3), but I guess it looks like its going to happen sooner than I hoped.

"Playstation magazine says next Playstation will be better then the next Xbox"

I believe the E3 thing though. 2013 release is sounding more and more likely.

This generation really turned me off with the amount of bugs, glitches, technical issues, and the whole 9 yards. These Consoles better deliver better experiences or I will dish out the dough to REALLY beef up my PC.

I think this is all a bit rushed...I want them to spend time crafting a console that is way more powerful than the current ones, not just a teensy bit better with a higher price tag & motion control stuff built in. Oh well who knows? E3 this year will be very interesting!
This is all Nintendo's fault *shakes fist* & I think it might be backfiring on them..

Meh, same games better visuals. Hell, at least MS is trying something different with motion sensing out of the box. With better motion sensing technology and much better games that utilize this technology, it might be interesting.

What I'm really pondering over is why you put a picture of Roger Moore fighting Richard Kiel as the thumbnail.

Wooho, we're gonna be soo ahead of the competition, just look at us, we're going to have KINECT 2.0!! Integrated! honestly, who gives a shit, core gamers want core games, with intuitive ways to control our games like buttons and stuff, with that said. I am excited to see what sony brings out, they're usually in front of the herd as far as technology and sheer power goes. I'm more sour on the xbox news because of their focus on recent atrocities like the win7 phone interface and the ever so gimmicky eyetoy peripheral. I'm gonna see if I ever end up getting one at all seeing as I havent dusted off my xbox is several months, to play the few exclusives it offers. If it goes as strong as the ps3 library, bringing big exclusives to their consoles and making those the strength pf the platform, plus the inclusion of xbla titles that were xbox exclusive, all in all thats gonna be what sells me on it, exclusive lineups, or future games I want.

Well, I can't remember a time where a company promised their newer console would be less powerful than their recently announced rival's, heh.
