Spike's Video Game Awards show premieres tonight but it seems that some overzealous Metal Gear fans have managed to sneak out a copy of the trailer for Metal Gear Rising.  Now re-titled Metal Gear Rising: Revengance (no, that's not a typo), the title is NOT being developed at Kojima Productions.  Rather, Platinum Games is handling the development and judging from the trailer, it definitely looks to play like one.

We'll update you with an HD version of the trailer if it becomes available soon.

Either the video quality is poor or they completely fucked up the game, the polish that was shown in previous trailer was so amazing and THIS is what it looks like now? Even if it is Platinum Games, it look so piss-poor. Awful trailer too. No damage to building structures really shown, only the slicing of enemies, and the angles were not even good like in the build we saw over a year ago! Don't like what I see, hope to see something better.

Revengeance may just be the greatest title ever, be it somewhat ironically.
I was already excited for Rising, but now... fuck. This looks badass beyond belief.
I might be alone in this, but I love that cheesy metal in the background.

Just when I thought Metal Gear couldn't get any more ridiculous, Raiden goes and throws a 60 foot tall, energy blade wielding metal gear into the air.

This is disappointing. The fact that I was well-prepared to spend my money on the Metal Gear Solid: Rising tech demo we first saw has been completely reversed. I have absolutely no desire to get into the game now that it's been turned into the kind of game I can't stand. Oh, man.. this is the definition of disappointing alright.

wow this looks mediocre, The previous trailer showed you was able to just slice enemies into multiple pieces and will and the graphics looked more serious but this now looks like a metal gear version of bayonetta :(.
I might pick it up just to try it out but it won't be anything like a metal gear game for me.

    THIS IS THE NEW SHIT!!

Seriously though, I think I'll enjoy it. It reminds me of No More Heroes. I also don't take MGS super seriously. At least cybernetics explains the over-the-top stuff better than nanomachines.

THIS DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE A MGS GAME. What did i just watch? is this metal gear, or bayonetta, or DMC? WTF. My expectations for this game just went lower.
if anything take away the Metal Gear Solid from the title. god awful.

I'll probably buy this, but I am not as excited as I was when I first heard about it and saw the tech demo. I think they are right to change the name, since the whole MGS feel is sorta missing. I wonder if they are still following the story line, and this is the story of how Raiden saved Sunny. Or this is just showing off how badass Raiden is, and has nothing to do with the MGS story.

From the looks of it the battles will be segmented like in bayonetta which was the one thing I didn't like about bayonetta :(

I'm into this. Everyone else is asking why; I'm asking, why not? Why can't Raiden chop a dude into bits and then throw a Metal Gear into the air. Is this not the same guy the breakdanced into some geckos, spinning them around, making them explode in MGS4? Having MGS being my favorite series ever only makes this more awesome. While I do agree this didn't have to be a Metal Gear game, who cares if it is?

It's being developed by Platinum now? God damn it, now I'll HAVE to buy it.

To be honest I didn't care much for the story of it, Raiden being a whiny bitch, even though it's still being written mostly by Kojima. Can't wait to see how good it plays.

Also, I forgot to address this, but it seems as though some people are complaining its just "another character action game now." Don't give me that shit. There's plenty of both stealth and character action games.

See Brad now we have a Metal Gear that plays like a Onimusha title. That's the problem with making people make games of the same franchise over and over again when they' are already done with the story.

Metal Gear Solid Rising: ReVengance (of the revengancers.) Brutal. Hmm, I didn't think they would ever find a way to blend MGS and Metalocalypse, but hey.

the fact that platinum games is the developer means its a must buy from me. I'm still pissed off that bayonetta and vanquish didn't sell too well, but this game looks great. This is leaked footage ppl so of course its gonna look bad, it might not look as polished as the first trailer, but we didn't see all that much in the first trailer to begin with.

    Hm...

Well it's developed by Platinum Games, which gave us Bayonetta, so it's not a question of "Can they do it?". I'm more worried about "Can they do it -WELL-?". Seeing as this isn't the same type of Metal Gear game we all know, I'm open to this. However, I did like some of the stuff I saw in the tech demo, and I'm not too fond of how the maps seem to look, they seem a little....bland.

I'm confident in both Kojima and Platinum Games to make the game good, but I want to see more before I judge. The idea is great, I want to see EXECUTION(and the little tech-demo-sword-path-thingy).

"Metal Gear Rising Trailer Has Leaked, Looks AMAZING"

Really? The first trailer for MGS: Rising had me crazy excited. The idea of a well timed slice cutting through an opponent was truly innovative. Now I see this and it looks like any other hack-and-slash. What was wrong with having the ability to one slice kill an opponent with a blade? The possibility to take on 100 dudes at the same time and to slice through them like butter make my pants tight just thinking about it. Now this game looks like nothing more than a DMC or Ninja Gaiden in the MGS universe.

Also, the music is absolute shit. What's wrong with the beautiful MGS OST's we know and love?

Just saying, I adore Platinum Games. It was a risk to have such a change for this game though as I can see from the comments on this page & the anger towards it. Its clear why sequels are usually not too different from previous games with the way fans react to change.
I haven't played a Metal Gear game before so I won't get involved in a debate, but I'll probably pick this up just because of PG!

Interesting that the story for this is not going to be canon of the MGS series, yet it takes place right after MGS4. I don't see why people should hate that the concept of stealth is gone in place of high-octane Bayonetta type action. The producer said that even the concept of free slashing is in this version, while you can slice, slice, slice your way to victory. I'm pretty excited for this, regardless if it doesn't fit the Metal Gear format.

As much as I like Platinum Games and all they've done, the gameplay from the original trailer looked so much more satisfying. No doubt the game will still play well, but the whole cut at will element they'd developed looked amazing. I was looking forward to it being a little more tactical than just hack and slash.

Hahahah, I was laughing my head off. This is fucking amazing and I am so excited. I know that the original trailer showed some different mechanics, but apparently they changed some of that so that it would be easier to get a lower rating in Japan, so fine!

I can see why people say Bayonetta, but I thought of something else first.

Hm. What other game made by a certain group that is now part of Platinum Games would let you go into bullet time when you killed an enemy to let you slice them up however you want? Mother fucking Okami. SO YES I AM EXCITE.

Not to mention that it kinda makes sense as to why he is somewhat unable to just cut through, they are guarding and trying to defend, and they are cyborgs. They're just holding up a bit better till he knocks the guard out of them and kills them dead. It just looks so silly, and I love it. Revengence? Yes. The Metal Gear series always had a lot of seriousness, but it also had a lot of silliness. It'll be great to see them take action movie frame a bit more, while also having fun with Raiden. Just. FFFFF. I am loving this trailer.

From what I can see in this wall of comments, most people who are okay with this have missed the point entirely.

In the first tech demo of this game it took on a realistic approach to using a blade. It wanted you to see the prospects of having a blade that can cut through objects and people hence "What will you cut?". I liked that kind of change to the Metal Gear series because the basics are still there. This just goes back to action set pieces and ridicules moments that disregard what the first tech demo wanted to do.

"I like change, I like innovation, but when you change too much, it becomes unrecognizable as a game in the series and people get mad."

This trailer is not Metal Gear, Solid or Rising included. It's a re-skinned Bayonetta. Hopefully some changes are made before this comes out.

When I was watching this, I was absolutely horrified, I was watching a cheesy hack n slash trailer with what seemed to be Dynasty Warriors music playing? Yes this game does look good, but it shouldn't be a Metal Gear title or related in anyway. Doesn't this one take place between 2 and 4 or did they scrap that as well with the original gameplay from the E3 trailer? If it still does I never saw Raiden pick up a fucking RAY and throwing it in MGS4. It's lost a bit of realism to me, but I think that's Platinums doing.

Honestly it might be good when it is released, but this game will leave a bad mark on the METAL GEAR franchise, hence I said MG, not MGS. Long live Kojima, down with Inaba!

So I was pretty excited about this game..and now I'm quit worried about it, I don't know. The thing that worries me the most is the studio switch and to reconfirm my fears the the trailer looks...meh. Now it just looks like a hack and slash game with a cool cutting mechanic that doesn't really matter and is just there for effect. What I really didn't like is how he was slashing at normal human enemies and they just took it. The last trailer everything he did had weight to it and he was connected to the world. Now its...I don't know. I'll still give it a chance, who knows it might be fun, but I cant help but feel like a solid polished title that I held a little dear just got raped.
