It seems like it's been a while since we've seen a new entry into (game count-wise) the largest strategy franchise in gaming history.  Early last year EA released Tiberium Twilight, a game that not only concluded the Tiberium Saga but also portrayed the Brotherhood of Nod as, well, good guys.  The Red Alert series has all but been ended as well and my beloved Generals series never got beyond its first expansion pack.

So it was quite a surprise to find out this morning that EA looks to be announcing not only a new C&C title soon but rather a whole new series.  EA has gone ahead and registered a series of domain names, all of which have one thing in common: the word 'alliance.'  Command & Conquer Alliances, as it seems, may be a brand new direction for the series from EA Victory Games, a new studio formed after EA Los Angeles was shuttered last year.

Here's the list of domain names:

alliances-commandandconquer.com
alliancescommandandconquer.com
candcalliances.com
candctiberiumalliances.com
commandandconquer-alliances.com
commandandconqueralliance.com
commandandconqueralliances.com
commandandconquertiberiumalliances.com
generalsalliance.com
generalsalliances.com
redalertalliance.com
redalertalliances.com
tiberianalliances.com
tiberiumalliance.com
tiberiumalliances.com

I find it interesting that, according to the bottom half of that list, the Alliances title is being applied to all three of the C&C series names.  This seems to suggest that EA may be taking Activision's idea of Call of Duty Elite and combining the series into one big, well, something-or-other.  Is a series refresher inbound?

Oh, also, several commenters complained about me using memes in my posts.  Joseph and I take umbrage to this and as such will be using them all week in the news culminating in a memestravaganza in the wrapup post.

I would take umbrage if you stopped using memes in your posts.

This is pretty exciting news though. I have been a long time fan of the C&C Series (since the original in the early 90s). I just hope that they make this iteration a lot less campy than the later installments of the Red Alert series. I also love to see them explore the Generals series more in depth. It had potential.

Ultimately, it gives me hope that maybe one day EA will finally make a decent successor to the Sim City franchise.

Ah, C&C, my old friend. Excited to see whatever this ends up being. Speaking of new things in the C&C world, wasn't there some other C&C FPS (besides renegade) in the works at some point? Or perhaps it came out and went right over my head. Any knowledge on this?

Yup, I agree that's pretty much the same reasons I come here too.

The last C&C game I've played was Red Alert 2. This does sound interesting though.
